9.4.2024 | Stora sammansättningen vid Europeiska domstolen för de mänskliga rättigheterna har idag meddelat ett avgörande i ett klagomål som lämnats in av sex unga personer i Portugal och rör de negativa konsekvenserna av klimatförändringen. Klagomålet är riktat till 33 stater, bland annat Finland. Avgörandet är slutgiltigt.

25.7.2023 | Finland förbereder sig på att genom beslut av inrikesministeriet sända 48 räddningsarbetare till Portugal för att hjälpa till med bekämpningen av terrängbränder. Räddningsinstitutet är arbetsgivare för räddningsarbetarna.

21.9.2021 | Minister Skinnari reser till Lissabon den 21–24 september. Syftet med besöket är att stärka handelsrelationerna mellan Finland och Portugal. I Portugal finns avsevärda möjligheter för finska företag inom till exempel bioekonomi och cirkulär ekonomi, energisektorn, den gröna omställningen och digitaliseringen.

På agendan för Marins och Costas enskilda möte stod ökat samarbete mellan Finland och Portugal och aktuella EU-ärenden. Vid det enskilda mötet diskuterades det informella mötet i allmänna rådet som ordnas i Coimbra i Portugal den 17 maj, där bland annat rättsstatsprincipen och konferensen om EU:s framtid står på agendan.

12.3.2026 | Finland and seven other EU Member States have signed a non-paper that stresses the important role of a strong emissions trading system in the EU. The non-paper is their response to the discussion where certain Member States hope for major changes to the emissions trading system and a lower price for emission allowances.

Santa Marta establishes an action-oriented platform to scale up work and to elevate energy transition. This is critical for addressing the climate emergency.

11.3.2026 | Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie has signed a joint statement from the ministers responsible for culture from 22 European countries, sent to the organisers of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Allowing the Russian Federation’s participation is unacceptable, and the ministers call on the Venice Biennale to reconsider its decision.

16.3.2026 | The EU Environment Council will meet in Brussels on Tuesday 17 March. Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will represent Finland at the meeting. Minister Multala stresses that now it is highly important to defend a consistent climate policy and, in particular, the emissions trading system.

18.8.2025 | By decision of the Ministry of the Interior, Finland has sent a module for ground forest firefighting to Spain to help manage wildfires raging across the country. The module will be deployed in Spain for about a week.

11.4.2025 | According to preliminary data, a total of 5,291 votes were cast in advance in the 2025 county elections and 8,310 votes in the municipal elections at Finnish missions abroad. In the dual elections, a total of 180 votes were cast on board Finnish vessels. In the 2022 county elections, 2,923 advance votes were cast, and about a hundred crew members cast their vote on board ships. In the 2021 municipal elections, 2,693 advance votes were cast, and over a hundred crew members voted on board ships.

27.1.2025 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet on Tuesday 28 January in Brussels. In the meeting, the GAC will continue its annual rule of law dialogue with country-specific discussions on the rule of law situation in Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia. The Council will also discuss the priorities for Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Finland’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Jori Arvonen, will represent Finland at the meeting.
