At the Council, the ministers will exchange views on the preparations for the UN Climate Conference (COP30) to be held in Belém, Brazil. 10.2.2025 | The annual OSCE Conference on addressing anti-Semitism opened today, February 10, in Helsinki. The conference is part of the OSCE's work on combating intolerance. 15.1.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo cultivated political and economic relations between Finland and the United Arab Emirates during a working visit on 13–15 January. The programme for his visit included meetings with the President and Prime Minister of the UAE and with several ministers. His visit also coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and the UAE. Prime Minister Orpo was accompanied on the visit by a business delegation put together by Business Finland.

7.12.2023 | This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In honour of the anniversary, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise, in cooperation with several partners, a national celebration ‘UN Declaration on Human Rights: 75 years of support to everyday human rights actions’ at Helsinki Music Centre on 8 December.

23.4.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government has agreed on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2026–2029. The decisions focus on reinforcing the conditions for economic growth and enhancing the security of Finland and the Finnish people. At the same time, the Government will ensure that public finances are sustainable. The growth package will be financed responsibly through measures to increase general government revenue and reduce expenditure.

24.10.2023 | The 2023 Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy has been jointly awarded to Ambassador Marja Lehto of Finland and former Ambassador Marie Jacobsson of Sweden for their pivotal roles advancing environmental law and policy to protect the environment in times of armed conflicts. An award ceremony and panel discussion with both Laureates was held in New York on Monday, October 23, 2023.

23.2.2024 | The second anniversary of the beginning of the Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine in its entirety will be this week on 24 February 2024. However, one anniversary was already observed last week on 15 February, when it had been exactly two years since the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism following Ukraine’s request for assistance.

22.2.2024 | Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years ago. The Finnish Government will show its solidarity with Ukraine by flying the Finnish and Ukrainian flags on the anniversary of the start of Russia’s invasion on Saturday 24 February. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ main building, Merikasarmi, will be illuminated in blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

20.2.2024 | Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit New Delhi, India, on 21–22 February. She will attend India’s most important foreign and security policy conference, the Raisina Dialogue. The visit will take place within the framework of co-operation between the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8).

12.12.2023 | Estonia and the World Health Organization (WHO) will hold a conference on the development of health systems on 12-13 December 2023, where Finland will be represented by Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso. In her speech, the Minister will address the economy of wellbeing, particularly the mutually supportive nature of both wellbeing policy measures and structures and the economy.

29.1.2024 | Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will lead a Team Finland visit to Indonesia from 29 January to 1 February 2024. A business delegation of 22 people from 15 different companies and organisations will participate in the trip. Rydman’s programme includes several ministerial meetings. In addition, a letter of intent between the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the authority responsible for the relocation of the Indonesian capital will be signed during the visit.
