20.12.2022 | On 20 December 2022, the Government submitted to Parliament a Union communication regarding the Commission's proposal on the so-called Euro 7 emission standards. The emissions standards apply to vehicle emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particles and nitrogen oxides, which are detrimental to health. The proposal is aimed at reducing the air pollution caused by new motor vehicles sold in the EU. The Government is mainly in favour of the proposal.

8.12.2022 | On 8 December 2022, the Government proposed that the President of the Republic approve the amendments, which have been passed by Parliament, to the Act on Purchase and Conversion Subsidies for Low-emission Vehicles. The President of the Republic is to approve the bill on 9 December 2022.

The strategy was prepared in broad-based cross-administrative cooperation with stakeholders. It sets out effective means for improving transport safety and preventing traffic accidents in all modes of transport.

13.12.2022 | On 13 December 2022, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published a follow-up report that assesses the networks of recharging and refuelling stations for vehicles running on electricity, gas or hydrogen. It also includes an assessment of the take-up of electric and gas cars. According to the report, the targets set for 2020 have for the most part been achieved. However, the targets set in 2017 were moderate and they were tightened in 2021 in the Roadmap for Fossil-free Transport.

16.2.2021 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications appoints an intersectoral working group of public officials to assess and make preparations for an emissions trading scheme in the national road transport sector.  The work is part of the preparations for the Roadmap for fossil-free transport.
