6.10.2025 | Biodiversity is declining in Europe. Emissions have been reduced, but the pace is not fast enough. The recent report of the European Environment Agency EEA explores the state of the environment in Europe, including Finland’s challenges and success stories. The report stresses that, in the end, all human activities depend on nature.

6.5.2024 | The Ministry of the Environment publishes online training that is free and open to all on decarbonised construction and a circular economy in construction. The training is in English, and it is intended for professionals and students in the real estate and construction sectors throughout Europe.

6.10.2025 | Finland and Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy on 6 October 2025. The MoU aims to develop technical and economic cooperation between the two countries in sustainable, clean and renewable energy and energy efficiency, and to promote the access of Finnish companies to the Indonesian market.

14.3.2025 | In its meeting on Friday 14 March, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs defined the Government’s main priorities for exerting influence on the European Commission’s work programme for 2025, which was published on 11 February. The Ministerial Committee also discussed the European Commission’s Communication on the Competitiveness Compass and its Vision for Agriculture and Food. In addition, the Ministerial Committee outlined Finland’s positions for four upcoming council meetings.

15.11.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has launched the Room for Growth project to come up with ideas for new ways to boost economic growth. As part of the project, a discussion event will be held on Tuesday 19 November at 15.00–16.30 at Aalto University. The event will be streamed live and released as a recording on the government video service.

20.10.2025 | The EU environment ministers will meet in Luxembourg on Tuesday 21 October. The ministers are expected to adopt Council conclusions on the preparations for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) and on the Water Resilience Strategy. The ministers will also discuss the European Ocean Pact proposed by the European Commission. Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will represent Finland at the meeting.

25.9.2025 | In its new report, Outlook for Finland – Assessment of Sustainability in Society 2025, the Prime Minister’s Office assesses the current state and development of sustainability in Finnish society.

26.5.2025 | On Monday 26 May, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah and two Members of the European Commission opened the New Wood exhibition in Brussels where Finland showcases bioeconomy solutions based on wood and the country’s strong competence and skills.

31.3.2025 | Finland, Zambia and the United Nations will organise the Least Developed Countries Future Forum (LDC Future Forum) in Lusaka on 1–3 April. 6.5.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Prime Minister of Luxembourg Luc Frieden met in Helsinki on Tuesday 6 May. Their discussions focused on European security, Ukraine, transatlantic relations and deepening economic relations between Finland and Luxembourg.

2.5.2025 | The Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, will visit Finland on Tuesday 6 May at the invitation of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

12.10.2021 | The Climate Policy Roundtable will hold its 11th meeting on Wednesday 13 October. The meeting will focus on the low-carbon circular economy agreement, which aims to boost the achievement of the objectives set in the Circular Economy Programme completed in spring 2021.

13.3.2025 | The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will visit Finland on 14–15 March on the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen. This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and the United Arab Emirates.

14.10.2021 | The Ministers will discuss the experiences gained in research and innovation cooperation between Finland and China and their future. A particular aim is to accelerate joint projects in the fields of low-carbon economy, circular economy, and food and health.

8.9.2021 | Finland supports the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) by EUR 3.6 million between 2021 and 2023 to develop value chains in sustainable forestry, mining and circular economy and to create jobs in developing countries. The project also includes a section strengthening the position of women and promoting gender equality in the work of UNIDO. The agreement was signed in Vienna on 8 September.

27.3.2025 | The Government submitted to Parliament its report on industrial policy on 27 March 2025. According to the report, Finland must improve the competitiveness of its investment environment by predictable regulation and sufficient incentives. Companies must increase their intangible investments to enhance productivity and the value added. Public funding must be used more efficiently to boost new sectors and diversify the economic structure.
