22.3.2024 | Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will lead a trade mission to Thailand on 24–28 March. He will be accompanied by ten Finnish companies. The mission will focus on circular economy, construction and clean transition solutions.

19.9.2023 | EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira will visit Finland on 20–22 September. During her visit, Ferreira will meet Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman and attend an event on future EU regional and structural policy in Mikkeli on 21 September. Commissioner Ferreira will also meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz.

12.4.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and other EU Heads of State or Government met for a discussion on the next EU Strategic Agenda on Thursday 11 April in Warsaw. In addition to Orpo, the Prime Ministers of Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland and Spain attended the dinner meeting.

23.10.2023 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend a Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 24–26 October.

13.3.2024 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will visit Los Angeles on 13–16 March 2024. During his visit, Minister Tavio will sign a letter of intent agreed between the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the City of Los Angeles on clean transition and digitalisation. The Minister will also present Finnish expertise in clean energy, port security and the games industry.

17.3.2023 | The climate and ecological crisis and the sustainability gap in general government finances cannot be solved separately. Actions that strengthen general government finances can be targeted so that they systematically take the economy, legislation, taxation, incentives and governance structures towards the green transition. This is the conclusion of the Outlook Review published by the Ministry of the Environment.

24.10.2022 | Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar from 24 to 27 October 2022. During his visit, Minister Skinnari will meet Saudi Arabian and Qatari ministers and representatives of business life. In addition, he will deliver a keynote address at the international Future Investment Initiative Forum (FII), which will be held in Riyadh on from 25 to 27 October.

Rising prices weaken consumers’ purchasing power, increase production costs and reduce willingness to invest. On the other hand, projects related to circular economy, digitalisation and clean energy solutions are progressing quickly in the regions.

23.3.2023 | In its meeting on 23, the European Council discussed the EU’s support for Ukraine and the global effects of the war. Also present at the meeting were UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the latter of whom joined the EU leaders via videoconference. The second main theme of the day was strengthening Europe’s long-term competitiveness.

2.11.2022 | Minister of Economic Affairs Lintilä will visit Germany, one of Finland’s most important trading partners, in November. During his visit, the Minister will speak at an event hosted by the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce and meet with representatives of German and Finnish companies.

1.3.2022 | The food industry has renewed its commitment to materials efficiency to promote more sustainable food production, distribution and consumption in 2022–2026. The Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation, the Finnish Grocery Trade Association and the Finnish Hospitality Association MaRa have signed the commitment together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of the Environment.

8.7.2022 | On 8 July 2022, the Government decided on the grant authorisations under the Finnish structural funds programme, Sustainable growth and jobs 2014–2020, for 2022 and the last allocation of funds of the programming period 2014–2020 to the intermediary bodies.

11.11.2021 | On 11 November 2021, the Government approved Finland’s participation in the Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme, an interregional co-operation programme of the European Union. This programme plays a key role in implementing the EU Baltic Sea Strategy.

21.9.2021 | Minister Ville Skinnari will visit Lisbon on 21–24 September 2021. The aim of the visit is to strengthen the commercial relations between Finland and Portugal. Portugal offers significant opportunities for Finnish companies in such areas as bioeconomy and circular economy, energy, climate and digital transitions.

8.3.2022 | Finland wants to introduce a voluntary Green Deal agreement to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic cups and certain food packages. The aim of the agreement is to find the most effective and, from the perspective of the businesses, feasible ways to fulfil the EU obligations. At the same time, the aim is also to boost the development and creation of new solutions and business models that reduce consumption.

27.9.2021 | The Competitiveness Council will discuss the EU’s climate package, ‘Fit for 55', from an industrial perspective, the role of better regulation in developing competitiveness and the internal market, and the governance reform of the European Research Area.
