18.2.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has invited Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Henna Virkkunen and the commissioners reporting to her to Finland on 20–21 February. Prime Minister Orpo and the commissioners will discuss current EU affairs and international issues on Thursday, 20 February.

16.2.2026 | On 16 February 2026, Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne and Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apóstolos Tzitzikóstas visited the Gulf of Finland to learn about icebreaking. On board icebreaker Sisu, the Minister and Commissioner discussed topics related to icebreaking and other current issues concerning the transport sector. Sisu was the first place that the Commissioner visited in Finland.

15.9.2025 | EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner visited Finland on Monday 15 September at the invitation of Finnish Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen. During his visit, he learnt about the arrangements at the Vaalimaa border crossing point and the fence being built on the border.

26.9.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo met for discussions with European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius in Helsinki on Friday 26 September. Prime Minister Orpo and Defence Commissioner Kubilius discussed the plans to develop a drone wall and efforts to strengthen the EU’s common defence more broadly.

3.10.2025 | The EU Commissioner for Equality and for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib will visit Helsinki on Friday 3 October. She will meet Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen and Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen. The visit to Finland is on the invitation of Minister of the Interior Rantanen. On Thursday Commissioner Lahbib was in Oulu to observe the international Rescue Borealis field training exercise.

25.9.2025 | European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius will meet with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen in Helsinki on Friday 26 September.

4.4.2025 | On Friday 4 April, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand and European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration Piotr Serafin visited the Vaalimaa border crossing point at Finland’s eastern border. During the visit, Minister Strand and Commissioner Serafin discussed the EU’s next multiannual financial framework, focusing especially on financing issues related to eastern border regions and efforts to boost competitiveness.

3.4.2025 | In their meeting on Thursday 3 April in Helsinki, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration Piotr Serafin discussed the EU’s next multiannual financial framework. Prime Minister Orpo highlighted several important issues for Finland during the discussion.

16.12.2022 | United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk will visit Finland from 18 to 19 December. He will meet Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto, who will be hosting the visit, and Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

13.6.2024 | Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen meets European Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra on 13 June in Helsinki.

4.7.2024 | On Thursday 4 July, the Government appointed Licentiate of Laws, trained on the bench Ilkka Koskimäki as National Police Commissioner for a term of five years from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2029.

10.4.2024 | A total of 8 candidates applied for the post of National Police Commissioner at the National Police Board by the deadline. The post will be filled for a maximum term of five years, starting on 1 September 2024. The National Police Commissioner is appointed by a government plenary session.

19.9.2023 | EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira will visit Finland on 20–22 September. During her visit, Ferreira will meet Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman and attend an event on future EU regional and structural policy in Mikkeli on 21 September. Commissioner Ferreira will also meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz.

7.9.2022 | Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson will visit Finland on 8–9 September. During her visit, she will learn about the Finnish reception system and border control at the eastern border of the EU.

6.2.2023 | Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will meet Thierry Breton, EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, in Helsinki on 6 February 2023. They will discuss the functioning of the internal market and the state aid rules.

15.11.2022 | Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen will meet Swedish National Police Commissioner Anders Thornberg in Helsinki on Tuesday 15 November. The meeting will focus on the current situation and measures concerning gang crime in Sweden.

8.6.2026 | Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie has presented seven State Awards for Public Information in acknowledgment of the dissemination of significant public information. The award ceremony will be celebrated on 8 June in Oulu, which is a European Capital of Culture this year.

24.4.2026 | Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto will represent Finland at a high-level conference on economic resilience and security of the EU’s eastern border in Vilnius on 24 April 2026.

4.5.2021 | On Tuesday 4 May, Prime Minister Sanna Marin met with European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius at Kesäranta. Commission Member Jutta Urpilainen also attended the meeting.

7.10.2022 | Commissioner Schmit met Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen and Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen in Helsinki. They discussed issues related to the rights and livelihood of workers as well as homelessness.

5.10.2022 | Minister Hanna Sarkkinen and Commissioner Nicolas Schmit will discuss poverty reduction, promotion of mental health and income security. The meeting between Minister Tuula Haatainen and Commissioner Schmit will address current issues related to working life, such as the platform economy and dialogue between the social partners.

5.3.2021 | Minister of Finance Matti Vanhanen highlighted Finland's views on the use of the EU’s sustainable finance classification system in the forestry and energy production sectors. Minister Vanhanen discussed these matters with European Commissioner Mairead McGuinness on Friday 5 March.

16.3.2021 | The first meeting of the Nordic Council of Ministers for Digitalisation during Finland’s 2021 Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers discussed the digital green transition and decided on the priorities for cooperation over the next four years. According to Minister Paatero, the Nordic and Baltic countries can serve as an example for mitigating climate change through a value-based, inclusive digital transformation that also boosts competitiveness.

15.9.2023 | The European Commission’s Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will visit Finland on 18–19 September 2023. During her visit, Simson will meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment Kai Mykkänen, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz and members of Parliament’s Environment and Commerce Committees.

10.11.2021 | Commissioner Mairead McGuinness will visit Finland on 10–12 November on the invitation of Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä and Minister of Finance Annika Saarikko. The Ministers and the Commissioner will discuss the EU’s sustainable finance classification system, or the EU taxonomy, with special focus on themes related to energy and forests. The Commissioner will also meet Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä in Helsinki.

1.4.2022 | On 1 April, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides, who is currently visiting Finland, will meet with Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Aki Lindén. During the day, they will pay a visit to the Helsinki Reception Centre in Punavuori and the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa.

15.10.2025 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki pays an advocacy visit to Brussels, Belgium on 15–17 October 2025. During the visit, Kivimäki meets European Commission representatives and Finnish Members of European Parliament.

12.6.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo called for swift reform of the EU single market in his meeting with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Stéphane Séjourné on Thursday 12 June in Helsinki. Executive Vice-President Séjourné is responsible for prosperity and industrial strategy.

28.3.2025 | Finland has been a forerunner in conducting national evaluations of sustainable development. The new second edition of a guidebook compiles experiences from various countries and provides practical lessons for planning and implementing country-led evaluations of sustainable development.

12.2.2025 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki, together with the Ministry’s senior public officials, is visiting Brussels on 11–13 February 2025 to influence various EU processes.

10.9.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo highlighted Finland’s key EU policy priorities in his meeting with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on Tuesday 10 September. Topical EU issues were also on the agenda in Prime Minister Orpo’s discussions with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

9.9.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will travel to Brussels on Tuesday 10 September. There, he will meet with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who has been elected to lead the new Commission as well. Prime Minister Orpo will then meet for discussions with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, who has also been elected for a new term.

24.8.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has invited a group of EU leaders to the European Arctic Summit in Rovaniemi on 13–14 September. The aim of the summit is to strengthen the EU’s common strategic approach to the Arctic region as its geopolitical significance continues to grow rapidly.
