16.2.2026 | On 16 February 2026, Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne and Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apóstolos Tzitzikóstas visited the Gulf of Finland to learn about icebreaking. On board icebreaker Sisu, the Minister and Commissioner discussed topics related to icebreaking and other current issues concerning the transport sector. Sisu was the first place that the Commissioner visited in Finland.

3.10.2025 | The EU Commissioner for Equality and for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib will visit Helsinki on Friday 3 October. She will meet Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen and Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen. The visit to Finland is on the invitation of Minister of the Interior Rantanen. On Thursday Commissioner Lahbib was in Oulu to observe the international Rescue Borealis field training exercise.

17.11.2025 | EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela will visit Helsinki and Espoo on 17–18 November 2025. The main themes of the visit will be digitalisation and critical raw materials.

15.9.2025 | EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner visited Finland on Monday 15 September at the invitation of Finnish Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen. During his visit, he learnt about the arrangements at the Vaalimaa border crossing point and the fence being built on the border.

27.6.2025 | European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis will visit southern Finland at the invitation of Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah from 29 to 30 June 2025.

26.9.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo met for discussions with European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius in Helsinki on Friday 26 September. Prime Minister Orpo and Defence Commissioner Kubilius discussed the plans to develop a drone wall and efforts to strengthen the EU’s common defence more broadly.

The post will be filled for a maximum term of five years, starting on 1 September 2024. The National Police Commissioner is appointed by a government plenary session.

19.9.2023 | EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira will visit Finland on 20–22 September. During her visit, Ferreira will meet Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman and attend an event on future EU regional and structural policy in Mikkeli on 21 September. Commissioner Ferreira will also meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz.

15.9.2023 | The European Commission’s Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will visit Finland on 18–19 September 2023. During her visit, Simson will meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment Kai Mykkänen, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz and members of Parliament’s Environment and Commerce Committees.

6.2.2023 | Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will meet Thierry Breton, EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, in Helsinki on 6 February 2023. They will discuss the functioning of the internal market and the state aid rules.

7.9.2022 | Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson will visit Finland on 8–9 September. During her visit, she will learn about the Finnish reception system and border control at the eastern border of the EU.

15.11.2022 | Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen will meet Swedish National Police Commissioner Anders Thornberg in Helsinki on Tuesday 15 November. The meeting will focus on the current situation and measures concerning gang crime in Sweden.

16.12.2022 | United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk will visit Finland from 18 to 19 December. He will meet Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto, who will be hosting the visit, and Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

7.10.2022 | Commissioner Schmit met Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen and Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen in Helsinki. They discussed issues related to the rights and livelihood of workers as well as homelessness.

5.10.2022 | Minister Hanna Sarkkinen and Commissioner Nicolas Schmit will discuss poverty reduction, promotion of mental health and income security. The meeting between Minister Tuula Haatainen and Commissioner Schmit will address current issues related to working life, such as the platform economy and dialogue between the social partners.

1.4.2022 | On 1 April, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides, who is currently visiting Finland, will meet with Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Aki Lindén. During the day, they will pay a visit to the Helsinki Reception Centre in Punavuori and the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa.

10.11.2021 | Commissioner Mairead McGuinness will visit Finland on 10–12 November on the invitation of Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä and Minister of Finance Annika Saarikko. The Ministers and the Commissioner will discuss the EU’s sustainable finance classification system, or the EU taxonomy, with special focus on themes related to energy and forests. The Commissioner will also meet Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä in Helsinki.

8.6.2026 | Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie has presented seven State Awards for Public Information in acknowledgment of the dissemination of significant public information. The award ceremony will be celebrated on 8 June in Oulu, which is a European Capital of Culture this year.

15.10.2025 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki pays an advocacy visit to Brussels, Belgium on 15–17 October 2025. During the visit, Kivimäki meets European Commission representatives and Finnish Members of European Parliament.

Executive Vice-President Séjourné is responsible for prosperity and industrial strategy.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission Concerning the Sámi People is the first truth and reconciliation process to be implemented in Finland. It is understandable that it has taken some time for the commission to begin its challenging and difficult work.

Minister Kiuru discussed the situation regarding vaccines with Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, on 20 January.

1.2.2022 | Finland and Sweden have sent a letter to Mairead McGuinness, EU Commissioner for financial services, financial stability and the Capital Markets Union, in which they express their concerns about the proposed technical screening criteria for nuclear power in the draft complementary delegated act of the EU Taxonomy Regulation. The College of Commissioners is expected to publish the final delegated act this week.
