6.7.2026 | The Ministry of Education and Culture has published a report by the Copyright Infrastructure Task Force on its work to date. The report brings together experiences and recommendations on how the management and licensing of copyright data can be developed to meet the needs arising from digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

The aim of the project is to develop a cross-administrative strategy for broadening the international scope of culture.

10.6.2025 | The growth of the creative industries and the creative economy is based on companies in the sector, their growth and internationalisation. Compared to its reference countries, such as Sweden, Finland has so far not really known how to make use of immaterial value creation. The creative industries still have a considerable amount of untapped potential for economic growth in Finland.

5.12.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Education and Culture appointed an Advisory Board for the Creative Economy on 3 December 2024 with the aim of promoting the growth and internationalisation of Finland’s creative industries.

5.12.2025 | Finland’s national soundscape Ääniä has received recognition in a prestigious place-branding competition in London. The work, composed by Lauri Porra, was honoured in the Best Use of Design category assessing strategic country branding initiatives. The soundscape is published on music streaming platforms on 5 December 2025, just ahead of Finland’s Independence Day.

11.10.2024 | Finland believes it has achieved further milestones in its Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). The Ministry of Finance filed the second payment request under the RRP with the European Commission on Friday 11 October.

28.11.2025 | Finnish Biodiversity Award 2023–2024 was given to an actor that had done something inspiring to halt biodiversity loss. The winner of the competition was Crowdsorsa mobile game that has already helped fight against invasive alien species in Finland on a total of 4 million square metres. Honourable mentions were awarded to the cities of Kauniainen and Vantaa. The prizes were awarded by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

16.4.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government has agreed on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2025–2028. The Government has made decisions that will improve the sustainability of public finances and create conditions for reversing the trend in indebtedness. The decisions aim to safeguard the key factors for future prosperity: employment, security, and knowledge and competence. Fairness has been one of the guiding principles of the decisions.

Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. 18.9.2024 | The multiannual plan for the use of central government research and development funding allocates funds to expanding partnerships between private and public R&D parties and to accelerating private R&D investment. Other key objectives and funding allocations include strengthening R&D competence and researcher careers, supporting research and technology infrastructures, and promoting European and international partnerships.

25.1.2024 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will attend the opening day of the Tartu Capital of Culture year on Friday 26 January. During her visit, the Minister will also meet the Ministers of Culture of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the European Commissioner for Culture.

27.10.2023 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit New York and Los Angeles from 30 October to 3 November 2023. Her aim is to deepen cooperation between Finland and the United States in culture, science and the creative sectors. Multala will meet with leaders of local cultural institutions and businesses, visit several universities, and talk to people playing key roles in culture, science and higher education.

10.4.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has joined as a founding member to the Data Spaces Alliance Finland cooperation network. The Alliance brings together the leading Finnish data business organisations. The network is composed of 22 companies, public bodies and research institutes.

9.11.2023 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala has launched a report on cultural policy. The preparatory work will be carried out with broad-based involvement of the cultural sector. The report is included in the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government. The Government aims to submit the report to Parliament in autumn 2024.

10.11.2023 | Finland considers that it has reached the first milestones of its Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). The Ministry of Finance filed the first payment request under the RRP with the European Commission on Friday 10 November. The total amount of the request is EUR 273 million.

27.2.2024 | This year, the recipient of the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators is Maima Grīnberga (b. 1969), who has been translating Finnish literature into Latvian with distinction. The prize, which has been awarded since 1975, is worth EUR 15,000. The Ministry of Education and Culture awards the prize annually based on a proposal by the Finnish Literature Exchange (FILI).

23.9.2024 | The Ministry of Education and Culture’s proportion of the 2025 budget proposal is EUR 8.45 billion, which is some EUR 411 million more than in the 2024 Budget. The proposal implements the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government, which aims to invest, even in a difficult economic situation, in raising the level of education and training and improving the conditions for conducting science, research and development.

15.2.2023 | The Ministry of Education and Culture published on Wednesday 15 February an Outlook Review of the Officials of the Ministry of Education and Culture on the Next Government Term.  In the future, too, Finland’s success, wellbeing and sustainable growth can only be based on the growth of human and social capital and innovation.

1.9.2022 | Representatives of the audiovisual sector submitted their views on the business objectives and necessary measures to the representatives of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Education and Culture at the Screen Helsinki event on 31 August 2022. The objective is to create a common growth agreement based on open dialogue. This would be a new operating model aimed at the growth and internationalisation of companies in the audiovisual sector.

24.3.2022 | In its plenary session on 24 March 2022, the Government adopted a resolution on the national intellectual property strategy. In the Government’s vision, by 2030 Finland’s operating environment concerning intellectual property rights (IPR) will support innovation activities and creative work effectively and increase economic wellbeing and competitiveness in a way that takes into account the realisation of fundamental rights and different social interests.

27.9.2021 | The Government submitted its budget proposal for 2022 to Parliament on 27 September. The proposed appropriations for the administrative branch of the Ministry of Education and Culture total EUR 7.41 million. Next year’s budget will continue to focus on improving quality and equity in education and on safeguarding funding for science and research. Funds will also be allocated for rebuilding the cultural sector in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the new SME Barometer, company expectations have recovered from the exceptionally negative spring to the same levels as a year ago as the effects of the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine have stabilised. However, expectations remain negative. The state of the economy is expected to deteriorate slightly over the next year. SMEs’ willingness to invest remains modest.
