29.4.2026 | In its meeting on Wednesday 29 April, the Ministerial Committee on EU Affairs discussed the issues on the agenda for the European Political Community (EPC) Summit, temporary protection for Ukrainians and the revision of the EU emissions trading system. The Ministerial Committee also outlined Finland’s positions for two council meetings taking place next week.

27.4.2026 | Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen will attend the OECD’s Skills Summit in Istanbul on 27–28 April 2026. He will meet the employment ministers of Türkiye and the United Kingdom, among others.

29.4.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the eighth summit of the European Political Community (EPC) to be held in the Armenian capital on Monday 4 May. The theme of the summit is Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe. Along with the heads of state or government of the countries involved in the EPC, representatives of EU institutions and the secretaries-general of NATO, the OSCE and the Council of Europe have been invited to the summit.

12.5.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the India-Nordic Summit in Oslo on Tuesday 19 May. On the same day, the Nordic prime ministers will also hold their own meeting on topical foreign and security policy issues.

9.6.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the Nordic-Baltic (NB8) Summit in Tallinn on Tuesday 9 June. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in attendance, and Prime Minister Orpo also had a bilateral meeting with President Zelenskyy during the Summit. The agenda for the summit included Ukraine, European security, defence industry cooperation, competitiveness and the use of artificial intelligence.

12.5.2026 | In their meeting on Tuesday 12 May, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Ukraine and the need to continue to provide strong support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.

18.3.2026 | In its meeting on Wednesday 18 March, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions for the European Council meeting on 19–20 March and the Euro Summit to be held in connection with it. The Summit also issued a joint communiqué, in which the participating countries expressed their support for Ukraine and Moldova on their path towards joining the European Union.

The prime ministers and energy ministers in attendance highlighted the role of nuclear energy in reducing the use of fossil fuels and enhancing energy security.

The Ministerial Committee also discussed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path to EU membership, as well as the reform of the Habitats Directive and the Bern Convention.

24.10.2025 | The European Council agreed on further measures to strengthen European defence and security in its meeting on 23 October in Brussels. The EU heads of state or government also discussed the use of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine in the form of a reparations loan. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.
