3.7.2026 | In its meeting on 3 July, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs specified Finland’s positions on the overall level of the EU’s multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2028–2034, new own resources and key issues for the negotiations. The ministerial committee also outlined Finland’s positions for three upcoming council meetings.

16.1.2026 | In its meeting on 16 January, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions on the Commission’s proposal for an amendment to the Market Stability Reserve Decision. The proposal aims to curb fluctuations in emission allowance prices when the new emissions trading system for road transport and buildings is launched in 2028.

29.4.2026 | In its meeting on Wednesday 29 April, the Ministerial Committee on EU Affairs discussed the issues on the agenda for the European Political Community (EPC) Summit, temporary protection for Ukrainians and the revision of the EU emissions trading system. The Ministerial Committee also outlined Finland’s positions for two council meetings taking place next week.

6.3.2026 | In its meeting on 6 March, the Ministerial Committee on EU Affairs outlined Finland's positions on the revised EU Cybersecurity Act. The ministerial committee also discussed progress on the Savings and Investments Union and outlined Finland’s positions for next week’s council meetings.

18.3.2026 | The EU heads of state and government will meet for the European Council in Brussels on Thursday 19 March. Discussions at the meeting will focus on recent developments in the Middle East, the situation in Ukraine, European competitiveness and the single market, defence and security, and the EU’s multiannual financial framework for 2028−2034. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the meeting.

20.3.2026 | The situation in Ukraine, developments in the Middle East and efforts to boost the EU’s competitiveness and deepen the single market featured prominently in the discussions at the European Council meeting in Brussels on Thursday 19 March.

5.12.2025 | In its meeting on Friday 5 December, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the European Commission’s proposal for the EU’s next multiannual financial framework and the agendas for four upcoming council meetings.

18.6.2025 | In its meeting on Wednesday 18 June, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions the EU single market strategy and the proposal for a handling fee for goods ordered from outside the EU. The Ministerial Committee also discussed Finland’s positions on the 18th sanctions package currently under preparation and the review of the EU Emissions Trading Directive.

2.10.2025 | Finland’s Draft Budgetary Plan for next year is based on the Government’s budget proposal.

4.7.2025 | In its meeting on Friday 4 July, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions on the Commission’s proposal to simplify regulation for businesses and received an update on the preparation of a plan for affordable housing in the EU.

13.2.2025 | The Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs met on Thursday 13 February to discuss proposals for a new EU sanctions package against Russia and for additional tariffs on imports of agricultural products and certain fertilisers from Russia and Belarus into EU countries. The meeting also discussed the ECOFIN meeting and informal meeting of Ministers for European Affairs being held next week.

3.3.2022 | On 3 March, Minister of Finance Annika Saarikko will meet with the President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, in Helsinki.

4.12.2024 | In its meeting on Wednesday 4 December, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs agreed on Finland’s positions on the deliberations for the EU pharmaceutical package. The Ministerial Committee on also outlined Finland’s positions for next week’s council meetings.

4.10.2024 | The Cabinet Committee on EU Affairs has formulated the position of Finland on using immobilised Russian Central Bank assets to support Ukraine, and on establishing a cooperation mechanism for loans to Ukraine and granting macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.

26.11.2024 | Minister of Finance Riikka Purra is pleased that the European Commission does not intend to propose opening an excessive deficit procedure for Finland.

8.5.2024 | The Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs met on Wednesday 8 May to discuss the development of the Schengen area. The Ministerial Committee also outlined Finland's positions for the two upcoming meetings of the Council of the European Union.

8.7.2020 | Minister of Finance Matti Vanhanen will represent Finland at the video conferences of the Eurogroup and the Ecofin Council on 9 – 10 July 2020.

9.7.2021 | The Economic and Financial Affairs Council will discuss the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and at the same time decide on the adoption of Council Implementing Decisions on twelve Member States’ recovery and resilience plans. Finland considers that the re-covery and resilience plans of these countries meet the set requirements and can therefore adopt the Council Implementing Decisions on the plans. 

19.6.2024 | In its meeting on Wednesday 19 June, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the progress of Finland’s efforts to influence EU policy and ways to increase the number of Finns working in EU institutions. The Ministerial Committee also discussed the Union’s enlargement prospects and outlined Finland’s positions for upcoming meetings.

5.4.2024 | In its meeting on Friday 5 April, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the proposal on EU security commitments to Ukraine. The Ministerial Committee also discussed the proposed declaration on social rights and the annual report on EU litigation, and outlined Finland’s positions for three upcoming council meetings.
