Minister for European Affairs Tuppurainen to European Parliament plenary session in Brussels

Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen will attend the plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels on 13–14 November. The speeches to be given by Minister Tuppurainen will focus on the situation of migrants on the Greek islands and in Bosnia and on crimes against journalists. The agenda also includes the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

In the European Parliament Minister Tuppurainen represents the Council of the European Union, where Finland holds the Presidency from July to December 2019. The Presidency of the Council of the European Union takes part in the inter-institutional dialogue with the Members of the European Parliament and the Commissioners and speaks for the Council in the plenary session of the European Parliament.

On Wednesday 13 November Minister Tuppurainen, together with Commissioner Vera Jourova, will attend the panel discussion concerning ways to enhance transparency in the EU and the proposal for a mandatory EU transparency register, organised by Transparency International. Openness and transparency are among the key priorities of Finland’s Presidency. For example, information on EU affairs-related meetings between Finnish ministers and interest groups or lobbyists held during the Presidency are published on the Presidency website.
