13.4.2021 | Maahanmuutto on monipuolisempi ilmiö kuin julkinen keskustelu antaa ymmärtää ja välttämätöntä Suomen taloudelliselle huoltosuhteelle. Kotouttajina kunnilla on tärkeä rooli Suomen elinvoimaisuuden ja yhdenvertaisuuden edistämisessä. Toistaiseksi ulkomaalaistaustaisen väestön jakautumisessa on suuria eroja alueiden ja kuntien välillä.

13.4.2021 | Finland's development cooperation expenditure in 2020 amounted to EUR 1 119 million. This represented 0.47 per cent of Finland's gross national income (GNI). Last year, the total amount of the exclusive ODA budget item administered by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs was EUR 708.4 million.

11.10.2021 | Did you know that you have collaborated with people living in Nepal, Somalia and Kenya and thus supported girls’ schooling, journalists’ training and job creation? You may be surprised, but that is all right. Development cooperation produces effective results, but we Finns know quite little about them. On 11 October, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will launch a campaign that will clarify the achievements of Finland’s development cooperation.

9.11.2023 | Former President of the Republic of Finland, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Ambassador and State Secretary of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Martti Ahtisaari passed away in Helsinki on 16 October 2023 at the age of 86. He was born on 23 June 1937 in Vyborg.

2.12.2021 | The UN estimates that 274 million people will need humanitarian assistance in 2022. The needs are increasing, for example due to the escalation of conflicts in Afghanistan and Ethiopia. Finland will increase its support for the alleviation of human suffering in crisis areas, which is why Finland will raise its funding for humanitarian assistance to EUR 113 million this year.

9.11.2023 | Entinen tasavallan presidentti, Nobelin rauhanpalkinnon saaja, suurlähettiläänä sekä ulkoministeriön valtiosihteerinä toiminut Martti Ahtisaari kuoli 16. lokakuuta 2023 Helsingissä 86-vuotiaana. Hän oli syntynyt 23. kesäkuuta 1937 Viipurissa.

19.8.2022 | The number of people in need of assistance has more than doubled in a few years. Finland has responded to this need both financially and by improving the methods of delivering assistance.

4.8.2023 | Tiivistelmä: Venäjän hyökkäyssota Ukrainassa jatkuu. Sodan seurauksena Euroopan unionin jäsenvaltioissa on tällä hetkellä noin neljä miljoonaa ukrainalaista tilapäisen suojelun saajaa. Myös muu EU-alueelle suuntautuva muuttoliike on kasvussa. Sekä EU-alueella jätettyjen turvapaikkahakemusten määrä että EU-alueelle suuntautuva sääntöjenvastainen muuttoliike on kasvussa. Tällä hetkellä paine on suurinta Keskisen Välimeren reitillä Tunisiasta ja Libyasta Italiaan.

17.3.2022 | On 17 March 2022, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) declared inadmissible an application concerning alleged discrimination against an applicant for a work-based residence permit.

4.8.2023 | Summary: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues. As a result of the war, around four million Ukrainians have applied for temporary protection in the Member States of the European Union. Other migration to the EU is also growing. Both the number of asylum applications submitted in the EU and irregular migration to the EU are on the rise. At the moment, migration pressure is concentrated on the Central Mediterranean route from Tunisia and Libya to Italy.

29.11.2021 | Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will meet Dr Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), on Friday 3 December.

29.7.2022 | Kansanedustaja Suldaan Said Ahmed vieraili Afrikan sarven alueella 14.–27. heinäkuuta. Matkansa aikana erityisedustaja Said Ahmed vieraili Etiopiassa, Djiboutissa ja Somaliassa sekä Mogadishussa että Hargeisassa.

22.6.2021 | Rowda Oladilla ja Abdirizaq Ahmedilla on yhteinen tavoite: edistää Somalian rauhaa. Ulkoministeriön rahoittamassa viestintähankkeessa Somaliassa Oladin ja Ahmedin kaltaiset aktiiviset nuoret kertovat rauhankehitystä edistävästä työstään.

21.12.2021 | Mogadishussa asuva Abdirizak Warsame Ahmed käänsi lapsuudessa sattuneessa onnettomuuden voimavarakseen. Onnettomuudessa hän menetti molemmat kätensä. Kädettömästä pojasta kasvoi mies, joka jakaa tänä päivänä rauhan ja toivon sanomaa Somaliassa. Ahmed on mukana ulkoministeriön rauhaa edistävässä viestintähankkeessa.

30.1.2023 | Sisäministeri Krista Mikkonen ja kansliapäällikkö Kirsi Pimiä vierailevat Yhdysvalloissa 29.1.-3.2. Vierailun tavoitteena on syventää kahdenvälisiä suhteita sisäministeriön hallinnonalan yhdysvaltalaisten vastinparien ja keskeisten sidosryhmien kanssa. Tarkoituksena on myös kartoittaa Yhdysvaltojen viimeaikaisia kehityssuuntia sisäisen ja kansallisen turvallisuuden sekä maahanmuuton sektoreilla.

30.1.2023 | Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen and Permanent Secretary Kirsi Pimiä will visit the United States between 29 January and 3 February. Their visit seeks to deepen bilateral relations with the United States counterparts in the Ministry of the Interior’s branch of government and with key stakeholders. They also aim explore recent developments in the areas of internal and national security and migration in the United States.

19.2.2021 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has launched projects to promote peace and reconciliation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia. The aim of the projects that are expected to last until 2023 is to encourage young people to work for peace and to use media skills as a way of exerting influence. The Ministry's Communications Department is responsible for the projects.

8.7.2022 | On 8 July, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto appointed Member of Parliament Suldaan Said Ahmed as his Special Representative on Peace Mediation in the Horn of Africa. In his work as Foreign Minister’s Special Representative, Said Ahmed will focus on supporting peace processes.
