  5. 17.12.2024 | Consultation has begun on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report concerning the lifetime extension and increased thermal power of the Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO). Comments on the report will be accepted at the Lausuntopalvelu.fi service from 17 December 2024 to 14 February 2025. In addition, a hearing event open to the public will be held in Eurajoki on 6 February 2025

  6. 16.1.2025 | The Ministry of the Environment requests comments on the draft decree of the Ministry of the Environment that would lay down provision on the monetary values of animals and plants protected under the Nature Conservation Act. The updates would lead to significant changes in the value of certain animal species. The value of freshwater pearl mussel, for example, would increase 2.5-fold. This would be the first time that values would be set for plant species as well.

  9. 23.1.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has sent for comments an environmental impact assessment programme (EIA programme) concerning the continued operation of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units in Eurajoki. TVO submitted the EIA programme to the Ministry in January. The deadline for submitting comments is 25 March 2024.

  10. 5.1.2024 | On 5 January 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment received from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj an environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme referred to in the Act on the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure. The programme concerns extending the service life of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units located in the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant area in Eurajoki as well as increasing their thermal output.

  11. 16.2.2023 | On 16 February 2023, the Government granted an operating licence to Fortum Power and Heat Oy (Fortum) for nuclear power plants units Loviisa 1 (LO1) and Loviisa 2 (LO2), in accordance with the Nuclear Energy Act. The new operating licence allows energy production at the nuclear power plant units until the end of 2050. The current operating licences for Loviisa expire on 31 December 2027 (LO1) and 31 December 2030 (LO2).

  17. 30.11.2021 | Under the migratory fish programme NOUSU led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the State of Finland contributes to the restoration of the Virtaankoski Rapid in the River Tainionvirta that discharges into Päijänne, the second largest lake in Finland. The regulating dam of the small-scale hydropower plant will be demolished to free the river.
