Minister Paatero: State ownership utilised successfully at the Turku shipyard

Minister responsible for ownership steering Sirpa Paatero commends the Turku shipyard buy-out by the German shipbuilding company Meyer.

– Finland will rise by the help of export-driven growth which needs to be actively supported by the government by all means available, Paatero says.

– Meyer's plans convey a strong message that there are those who believe in the competitiveness of the shipyard industry operating in Finland and who are ready to commit to it.

According to Paatero, state ownership has been utilised flexibly and appropriately in actions to ensure future operations of the Turku shipyards.

– The approach to state ownership must be practical, not ideological. This is an excellent example. The next government should take this into its tool kit, Paatero says.

– The State needs to utilise ownership as a policy instrument in its efforts to promote the transformation of economic structures in a sustainable, employment-creating way.
