Chancellor of Justice
The Chancellor of Justice oversees the legality of decisions made at plenary and presidential sessions of the Government.
During the stage at which government decisions are being prepared, the Chancellor of Justice:
- provides upon request the President of the Republic, the Government and ministries with information and opinions on legal issues concerning the decisions made at presidential and plenary sessions of the Government
- reviews in advance the documents presented to the Government and the President. Errors detected during the review are corrected before the session or the session is postponed as necessary.
The Chancellor of Justice is present in the Government's plenary, presidential and evening sessions and at informal government meetings. During the sessions, the Chancellor of Justice may present comments on unlawfulness of decision-making as necessary. However, the Chancellor of Justice does not have the right to prevent decision-making. If the comments are not heeded, the Chancellor of Justice will have them entered in the minutes and take further measures as necessary.
After the decision-making, the Chancellor of Justice will examine the minutes and handle any complaints concerning the decisions. The Chancellor of Justice may also investigate a decision on their own initiative if there is reason to suspect that an action has been defective.
