President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discuss international crisis management and Finland’s NATO membership process

On Tuesday 7 June, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed issues related to international crisis management and agreed that Finland would prepare to increase its participation in NATO’s KFOR operation in Kosovo.

The President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy also agreed that, due changes in the circumstances in the operating environment, the decision of 26 August 2021 on increasing Finland’s participation in the EUTM Mali operation is no longer valid.

In addition, the President and the Ministerial Committee stated that Finland would contribute to  the NATO Response Force in 2024 with a Navy Coastal Jaeger company. Finland will contribute with an Army Jaeger company in 2025 and with an EOD diving unit in 2026.

The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed the progress of Finland’s NATO membership process.
