Ministries’ services for the media
The ministries’ communications are based on the Government Rules of Procedure and the rules of procedure of individual ministries, among other guidelines. The values that guide communications are set out in the Government Communications Guidelines. These values are openness, reliability, impartiality, intelligibility, interactivity and service-mindedness.
The ministries are responsible for communicating about their activities and for coordinating communications in their respective administrative branches. The Government Communications Department at the Prime Minister's Office is responsible for joint and external communications under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
Communications professionals at the ministries respond to inquiries from the media and citizens and direct them to ministry experts. They organise press conferences, briefings and other events and produce content on current issues, online and social media content, and webcasts. The ministries also maintain online services and social media channels.
Government media service
The government media service is a joint online service for the media that requires registration. The website is available in Finnish and is maintained by the Government Communications Department and hosts content produced by all ministries.
You can subscribe to the ministries’ media invitations and press releases to receive them via email. The media service also contains materials from government decisions that have been removed from the public online service for data protection reasons. These include appointments to public offices, petitions for pardon and applications for inheritance by the state.
