Prime ministers of Finland and Sweden to meet in Helsinki

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will meet in Helsinki on Monday 27 November. After their bilateral meeting, the prime ministers will take part in a more extensive meeting with the foreign ministers and defence ministers of both countries.

The prime ministers’ bilateral meeting will focus on relations between Finland and Sweden, the security situation and topical EU issues. Prime Minister Orpo will also brief Prime Minister Kristersson on the developments at Finland’s eastern border. 

The prime ministers’ meeting with the foreign and defence ministers will focus on the close cooperation between Finland and Sweden in the NATO membership process.

“Relations between Finland and Sweden are closer than ever, and this is also reflected in the interactions between our governments. Swedish ministers have been frequent visitors to Helsinki in recent months. We are working together closely on both security issues and EU policy, and Prime Minister Kristersson and I intend to strengthen our common message in our upcoming discussions,” Prime Minister Orpo says.
