The Government adopted strategic research themes for 2017–2018
On Thursday, 6 October, the Government adopted in its plenary session the main strategic research themes and priorities for 2017 and 2018.
The theme for 2017 will be "Changing Society and Citizenship in a State of Global Flux" and for 2018 "Reform or Wither – Resources and Solutions". It was decided that the cross-thematic focus areas for both years are information in decision-making and execution, and sustainable growth in society.
The Government makes a decision on the themes and priorities of strategic research for each year. Following the decision, the Council for Strategic Research under the Academy of Finland will take over the responsibility for the arrangements related to the programmes and application processes as well as for the selection, follow-up and impact assessment of the research projects. The projects to be funded are selected on the basis of their societal relevance, impact and scientific quality.
