Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero and Minister Mark Boris Andrijanič, who is the Slovenian government’s representative in matters relating to the digital transformation, signed a memorandum of understanding on increasing cooperation between Finland and Slovenia in relation to the digital transformation. The goal is to develop the digitalisation of public administration in both countries.

“I am happy that we can continue to strengthen our cooperation with Slovenia in the field of digitalisation. We can learn from each other's experiences and good practices in the development of digital services,” says Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero.

“When established, the Government Office for Digital Transformation set an ambitious goal to place Slovenia, before the end of this decade, among digitally the most advanced European countries,” says Minister Mark Boris Andrijanič.

“As we would like to learn from the best, we decided to enter in a partnership with Finland, one of the most digitalised countries in the world. This partnership will assist us with developing ICT resources and digital infrastructure, improving digital skills of our citizens and strengthening cyber security,” says Minister Andrijanič.

The areas of cooperation outlined in the memorandum now signed extensively cover different areas of the digital transformation in the public sector. The intention is for the countries to exchange experiences relating to the digitalisation of public services, including health services and education, and relating to the development of digital skills and cyber security. Over the next few years, this cooperation will take the form of meetings, seminars, workshops and visits.

The memorandum of understanding will remain in force for three years, after which it can be automatically extended one year at a time. The document is not legally binding and does not contain any legal obligations.
