Ministry begins to draft a cultural policy report

Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala has launched a report on cultural policy. The preparatory work will be carried out with broad-based involvement of the cultural sector. The report is included in the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government. The Government aims to submit the report to Parliament in autumn 2024.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government included in its Programme a cultural policy report that will be submitted to Parliament. The vision presented in the report and the measures to achieve it are based on the situational picture of the arts and culture sector and its key drivers of change.

“Culture is an integral part of the foundation on which our education is built. Growth in the cultural sector supports society as a whole, strengthening our wellbeing, creativity and sustainability. I hope that all those involved in the arts and culture scene will actively join in creating a shared vision of the sector's future. This report will create an ambitious vision for the long-term development of Finland's arts and cultural policy,” says Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala.

The report will be prepared with broad-based involvement of practitioners and stakeholders in the sector.

The working group will begin their work by inviting arts and culture sector representatives to a launch event to discuss the objectives and ways of developing cultural policy. The event will take place in Helsinki on Monday 27 November at 11.30–14.30. You can attend the event in person or online. In addition to writing the report, the Government is preparing a growth strategy for the creative industries in cross-administrative cooperation, along with establishing permanent cooperation procedures, especially between the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

The Ministry has also appointed a steering group to complement and guide the report preparations. The working group will be chaired by State Secretary Elina Laavi. For information on the working group members, see the Gateway to Information on Government Projects (in Finnish).
