Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment prepares compensation to businesses affected by restrictions on movement

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment is urgently preparing legislation to provide reasonable compensation to companies affected by the restrictions on movement. The Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament for an act on the temporary restriction of freedom of movement and close contacts on 25 March 2021.

According to the proposal, provisions on compensating for losses caused by the coronavirus epidemic will be laid down in the Act on Support for Business Costs. The legislation will provide for a possibility of reasonable compensation, thereby taking into account the effects of the restrictions on movement on companies.

The support would provide reasonable compensation for business costs, including payroll costs and rent. The new form of aid to compensate for the effects of the restrictions on movement requires an amendment to the Act of Support for Business Costs.

The Government’s proposal to temporarily restrict freedom of movement is currently under consideration by Parliament. The Act is set to enter into force as soon as possible and it will remain in force until 14 May 2021.
