The classification system will help investors to compare the sustainability of different investments, and the aim is to direct capital towards more environmentally sustainable investments.

The Council of the European Union and the European Parliament have reached a political agreement on the classification of sustainable investments. The Finnish Presidency represented the Council in the trilogue negotiations with the European Parliament and the European Commission.

On Wednesday 18 December, in a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper), the member states’ EU ambassadors confirmed the political agreement made with the European Parliament.
