Ministry of Defence opens new e-service for permits to buy real estate by parties outside EU and EEA
On Tuesday 19 November 2024, Finland's Ministry of Defence opened a new electronic service, the Property surveillance e-service, where private individuals and companies outside the EU and the EEA can apply for permits to buy real estate in Finland.
In the service, customers can answer the Ministry's questions and supply any supplementary information requested by the Ministry during the permit process.
Customers can check the progress of the permit process and receive the decision in the service. They can also pay the processing fee through the service system.
Buyers from outside the EU and the EEA need a permit to buy real estate in Finland when one of the following parties is the buyer:
- A private individual who is not a national of a state belonging to the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA). People with dual nationality do not need to obtain a permit if one of the nationalities is in an EU or EEA country.
- A company or other entity domiciled outside the EU and the EEA.
- A company or other entity domiciled in the EU or the EEA, but in which a party outside the EU or the EEA has ownership of at least 10% or equivalent effective influence in the entity.
