Suspected territorial waters violation in the eastern Gulf of Finland
A Russian vessel is suspected of a territorial violation of Finland's marine area in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
The suspected violation took place in the afternoon of 26 July 2024.
As the highest territorial surveillance authority, the Ministry of Defence directs and coordinates the activities of the territorial surveillance authorities in matters related to territorial surveillance. The Border Guard is in charge of investigating incidents involving border violations.
The previous confirmed territorial violation took place on 10 June 2024, when four Russian state aircraft entered Finland's airspace off the coast of Loviisa and Porvoo.
The Border Guard is investigating the incident and will provide further information as the investigation progresses.
