4.12.2025 | The Truth and Reconciliation Commission will submit its final report to the Government, the Sámi Parliament and the Skolt Sámi Siida Council on 4 December 2025. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission held consultations with almost 400 Sámi people and commissioned 25 separate studies by various experts. The final report contains recommendations and proposals for measures.

The Advisory Board on the Creative Economy is an expert advisory body for business development in the creative economy. Its activities are coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

27.6.2025 | The aim of the legislative reform is to promote the realisation of Sámi people's right to self-determination and to improve the operating conditions of the linguistic and cultural autonomy of the Sámi and those of the Sámi Parliament. The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the amendments to the Act on the Sámi Parliament today. They will enter into force on the 1st of August 2025.

19.3.2026 | Today, in cooperation with the Sámi Parliament and the Skolt Sámi Siida Council, the Government appointed a coordination and monitoring group to support the work of the parliamentary working group tasked with assessing the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Concerning the Sámi People. The group will support the work of the parliamentary working group and ensure effective cooperation between key actors.

26.3.2026 | The Government withdraws its proposal submitted to Parliament on 21 August 2025 for legislation supplementing the EU Gigabit Infrastructure Act. On 26 March 2026, the Government submitted a communication to Parliament on the withdrawal of the proposal.

We will develop the operating conditions of CSOs in cross-administrative cooperation. The implementation of the strategy includes legislative projects, studies and reports and other development measures. The aim is, for example, to extend the right to tax deductions on donations to CSOs, to reform government grant practices and to form a vision of civil society.

4.6.2026 | The Government is proposing a new type of integration assistance. The general social security benefit would be paid as integration assistance to immigrants registered as unemployed jobseekers who do not meet the prior work requirement or have lived in Finland for less than three years.

14.10.2024 | The Government discussed the recommendations, decisions and conclusions issued to Finland by the international human rights monitoring bodies on 3 October. The discussion was held as part of the implementation of the Government's equality statement. Based on the discussion, the State Secretaries of the parties in Government decided on further measures related to the recommendations.

21.8.2025 | On 21 August 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal for legislation supplementing the EU Gigabit Infrastructure Act. The aim of the Gigabit Infrastructure Act is to speed up the construction of very high capacity networks. It is the aim of the European Union that, by 2030, all EU households be covered by a gigabit network.

13.2.2026 | An interim report has been published on the project implementing the Government’s Equality Statement. The report brings together information on the project’s progress between 2023 and 2026. According to the report, the work has already led to legislative reforms and increased concrete anti‑racism measures across different sectors.

24.8.2023 | On 24 August 2023, the Government appointed the Sámi Climate Council for a four-year term. The Sámi Climate Council is a new independent expert body, tasked with bringing the knowledge base and perspectives of the Sámi people into the climate policy processes.

5.6.2025 | The EU Arctic Forum, to be held at Levi, Lapland, on 26–27 June 2025, gives European Arctic actors an opportunity to discuss the future of Arctic cooperation at its turning point.

21.4.2023 | The Ministry of the Environment invites the Sámi Parliament, universities, research institutes and the Finnish Climate Change Panel to propose members to the Sámi Climate Council. The processes to appoint members to the Finnish Climate Change Panel and Finnish Nature Panel will start later.

29.10.2020 | The negotiations on the Climate Change Act between the Ministry of the Environment and the Sámi Parliament under section 9 of the Act on the Sámi Parliament were held on Tuesday 27 October. The Government proposal for the reformed Climate Change Act should be ready in spring 2021.

13.8.2021 | On 12 August, Prime Minister Sanna Marin met with President of the Sámi Parliament Tuomas Aslak Juuso and other representatives of the Sámi Parliament at the House of the Estates. The meeting was arranged at the Sámi Parliament’s initiative. State Secretary Henrik Haapajärvi was also in attendance, along with officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Justice.

19.2.2026 | On 19 February 2026, the Finnish Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament on amending the legislation on devices intended for deliberate radio interference, also known as jammers. The amendments would be made to the Act on Electronic Communications Services.
