18.2.2026 | The Ministerial Meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA) will be held in Paris on 18–19 February 2026. At the meeting, energy ministers from around the world will assess the latest developments in the energy market and energy policy and the effects thereof on energy security, affordability and sustainability. Finland will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

11.3.2026 | Kansainvälisen energiajärjestön IEA:n hallintoneuvostossa 11.3.2026 hyväksytyn suosituksen tarkoituksena on reagoida rauhoittavasti Lähi-idässä käytävän sodan vaikutuksiin maailman öljymarkkinoihin.

5.5.2023 | The International Energy Agency (IEA) published the results of its review on Finland’s energy policy on 5 May 2023. According to the review Finland’s nuclear and renewable power strengths provide a solid foundation for reaching its ambitious climate targets. The IEA conducts country reviews of its member countries’ energy policies every five years and issues recommendations for new policy measures.

24.10.2022 | A week-long visit of an expert group from the International Energy Agency (IEA) to Finland ended on 24 October 2022. The group was in Finland to assess the energy policy implemented and future prospects. This time, the country review focused on electrification, clean energy production and the promotion of hydrogen use.

30.3.2021 | On 31 March 2021, Finland will participate in the IEA-COP26 Net Zero Summit, which will discuss measures to speed up the transition to clean energy as well as means for States to cooperate more effectively to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050 in order to achieve international climate goals. Finland’s representative at the virtual meeting will be Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

5.5.2023 | Kansainvälinen energiajärjestö IEA julkaisi 5.5.2023 Suomen energiapolitiikan maatutkinnan tulokset. IEA:n mukaan Suomen ydinenergian ja uusiutuvan energian vahvuudet antavat vankan pohjan kunnianhimoisten ilmastotavoitteiden saavuttamiselle. Viiden vuoden välein toteutettava maatutkinta arvioi kohdemaansa energiapolitiikkaa ja antaa suosituksia uusista politiikkatoimista.

5.5.2023 | Internationella energiorganisationen IEA publicerade den 5 maj 2023 resultaten av landsundersökningen av Finlands energipolitik. Enligt IEA-rapporten utgör Finlands styrkorna inom kärnkraft och förnybar energi en solid grund för att nå sina ambitiösa klimatmål. Den landsundersökning som genomförs vart femte år utvärderar mållandets energipolitik och ger rekommendationer om nya politiska åtgärder.

30.3.2021 | Suomi osallistuu 31.3.2021 IEA-COP26 Net Zero -huippukokoukseen, jossa kirkastetaan toimia puhtaan energian siirtymän vauhdittamiseksi ja pohditaan keinoja, miten valtiot voivat toimia tehokkaammin yhdessä kasvihuonekaasupäästöjen vähentämiseksi nettonollaan vuoteen 2050 mennessä kansainvälisten ilmastotavoitteiden saavuttamiseksi. Suomea virtuaalikokouksessa edustaa elinkeinoministeri Mika Lintilä.

8.3.2021 | Pirjo Jantunen, Business Development Manager at Helen Oy, was appointed Finland’s Clean Energy Ambassador to International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) technology programme on 8 March 2021. International energy ambassadors serve as frontrunners making the energy sector more equal and as role models for women leaders of the next generation. 

30.3.2021 | Finland deltar den 31 mars 2021 i toppmötet IEA–COP26 Net Zero. På mötet ska deltagarna se närmare på åtgärder som driver på övergången till ren energi och diskutera effektivare sätt för samarbete när det gäller att nå nettonollutsläpp före 2050. Detta i syfte att uppnå de internationella klimatmålen. Finland representeras vid mötet av näringsminister Mika Lintilä.

13.3.2026 | The EU ministers responsible for energy issues will convene in Brussels on 16 March 2026. The meeting agenda will include the European grids package for 2028–2034, the action plan for affordable energy, and energy security. Finland will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

18.2.2026 | Finland and Germany have signed a statement of intent on further cooperation on hydrogen infrastructure, hydrogen technology development and investments in the hydrogen sector. The statement was signed by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala and, on behalf of Germany, Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche in connection with the Ministerial Meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris on 18 February 2026.

14.11.2025 | Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto will participate in the UN Climate Change Conference COP30 in Belém, Brazil on 14–15 November 2025. Minister Puisto’s agenda will focus on clean energy and clean transition and Nordic cooperation. He will participate in events organised at the Finland Pavilion co-hosted by Finnish businesses, cities and research institutes.

31.1.2025 | In Finland, there is broad recognition of the important role that nuclear energy will also play in the future. There is a willingness to build new capacity, yet the profitability of investments has clearly weakened over the years. What different means could be considered to advance nuclear energy?

7.6.2024 | The availability and price of natural gas (methane) have been at the heart of Europe's response to Russia's aggression in connection with the war in Ukraine. A massive military invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, but the energy war started already in summer 2021 as Russia manipulated gas trade to the European Union.

8.4.2022 | Finland will release 369,000 barrels of crude oil to the market from the emergency stockpiles maintained by the National Emergency Supply Agency. In this way Finland will participate in the unanimous decision made by the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency (IEA) on 1 April 2022, according to which IEA member countries will release oil products to the market from their emergency stocks.

President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will speak at the publication event of the Declaration on Forests in Glasgow on Tuesday.

Energiaministerit eri puolilta maailmaa arvioivat kokouksessa energiamarkkinoiden ja -politiikan viimeisimpiä kehityskulkuja sekä niiden vaikutuksia energiahuoltovarmuuteen, kohtuuhintaisuuteen ja kestävyyteen. Suomea kokouksessa edustaa ympäristö- ja ilmastoministeri Sari Multala.
