19.1.2026 | The International Monetary Fund (IMF) published its annual report on the Finnish economy on Monday 19 January. According to the IMF, efforts to strengthen public finances will have to continue for several years.

10.11.2025 | The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that Finland should consolidate general government finances by about EUR 1.5 billion annually. Consolidation should be continued until the fiscal balance is closed and debt begins to decline. The IMF published its statement on the Finnish economy on Monday 10 November.

14.4.2026 | Minister of Finance Riikka Purra will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington DC on 15–17 April. The main themes for the week of meetings are the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on the global economy and creating jobs and growth in developing economies.

17.12.2025 | Finland will participate in the 17th replenishment of the African Development Fund (AfDF-17) to support sustainable economic growth in the poorest countries on the continent. The objective of the African Development Fund (AfDF) is to reduce poverty by promoting the economic and social development of African countries. Finland is also involved in supporting Africa’s debt sustainability.

14.10.2023 | Minister of Finance Riikka Purra attended the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Marrakech, Morocco this week. The meetings focused on the main issues facing the international economy and the current global situation. The most difficult issue raised at the meetings was condemning Russia for its war of aggression against Ukraine.

The Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action will also meet on 12 October, and Minister Saarikko will chair the meeting.

19.4.2022 | The Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action will hold its spring meeting on Tuesday 19 April. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will be held virtually in connection with the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Finland has served as the one of the chairs of the Coalition since 2019, and the meeting is due to decide on extending the term by one more year until spring 2023.

4.4.2022 | Convening at the Lahti Adaptation Finance Ministerial on 3-4 April, 2022, members of the Champions Group on Adaptation Finance reiterated their commitment to work together to respond to growing climate change adaptation needs. At the Ministerial, the Champions Group discussed the key priorities for its work including increasing the level, quality and accessibility of adaptation finance, ensuring a balance with mitigation finance, and that it reaches those most in need.
