17.6.2026 | On Wednesday 17 June, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions for the European Council meeting at the end of this week. The Ministerial Committee also discussed ways to use the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support Ukraine, Commission Communication on fertilisers and reform of the merger control rules.

15.6.2026 | The EU General Affairs Council will meet in Luxembourg on Tuesday 16 June. The main items on the agenda include the EU’s multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2028–2034 and preparations for the June European Council. Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will represent Finland at the meeting.

18.3.2026 | Due to technological advances and the green transition, work is undergoing a major transformation, which underlines the importance of safeguarding workers’ rights. This will be among the topics addressed at the Council of Europe’s High-Level Conference on Social Rights in Chișinău, Moldova on 18–19 March 2026. State Secretary Mika Nykänen will attend the meeting on behalf of Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen.

13.3.2026 | On Friday 13 March, the Ministerial Committee on EU Affairs discussed the new EU Bioeconomy Strategy and outlined Finland’s positions for four council meetings to be held next week. 

10.4.2025 | In January, Moldova requested energy sector assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism after Russia had stopped gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. The situation has jeopardised the functioning and stability of the electricity sector throughout the Republic of Moldova.

14.5.2026 | The Council of Europe's annual session of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs will be held on 14–15 May in Chișinău, Moldova. Finland will be represented at the meeting by Secretary of State Pasi Rajala.

22.5.2025 | Ukraine held a Ministerial Social Policy Summit in Lviv on 22 May. The theme of the Summit was ‘Building Resilient Societies: Innovative Solutions for Demographic Change’. The Summit also issued a joint communiqué, in which the participating countries expressed their support for Ukraine and Moldova on their path towards joining the European Union.

29.4.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the eighth summit of the European Political Community (EPC) to be held in the Armenian capital on Monday 4 May. The theme of the summit is Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe. Along with the heads of state or government of the countries involved in the EPC, representatives of EU institutions and the secretaries-general of NATO, the OSCE and the Council of Europe have been invited to the summit.

4.5.2026 | Prime Minister Orpo represented Finland at the eighth summit of the European Political Community (EPC) in the Armenian capital of Yerevan on Monday 4 May. The theme of the summit was building the future through unity and stability in Europe.

23.4.2026 | The European Commission has granted Finland a TAIEX 30th anniversary award for its leading role in promoting digital innovations and competitiveness. The Commission recognised EU Member States for promoting the TAIEX programme’s goals in the EU enlargement process and institutional capacity-building in partner countries.

15.4.2026 | Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will visit Berlin on 16 April. During the visit, Minister Strand will meet with German Minister of State for European Affairs Gunther Krichbaum and Chair of the Committee on European Affairs in the Bundestag Anton Hofreiter. The meetings will focus on topical EU issues, the security situation in Europe and bilateral relations between Finland and Germany.

16.3.2026 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet in Brussels on Tuesday 17 March to discuss the EU’s next multiannual financial framework and continue preparations for the March European Council. The ministers will also agree on amendments to the European Election Act and review the progress of the 2026 European Semester. Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will represent Finland at the meeting.

13.3.2026 | The EU ministers responsible for energy issues will convene in Brussels on 16 March 2026. The meeting agenda will include the European grids package for 2028–2034, the action plan for affordable energy, and energy security. Finland will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

30.7.2025 | Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand and Moldovan Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov will meet in Helsinki on Friday 1 August. The main topic on the agenda will be Moldova’s EU accession process.

2.10.2025 | The EU’s strong support for Ukraine and the security situation in Europe were the main topics on the agenda at the seventh meeting of the European Political Community in Copenhagen on Thursday 2 October. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.

17.10.2025 | EU energy ministers will meet in Luxembourg on 20 October 2025. In the meeting, the aim is to approve the Council's general approach on the RePowerEU regulation to gradually phase out natural gas imports from Russia. The other main item on the agenda is to discuss the role of electrification as a driver of the EU’s competitive and clean transition. Finland will be represented at the meeting by the Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

22.2.2023 | Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen will visit Moldova on 22–24 February. During the visit, Mikkonen will meet the Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco and the Representative of the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR in Moldova, Francesca Bonelli, among others. The topics of discussion in the meetings during the trip include Ukraine’s refugees and civilian crisis management.
