28.10.2025 | Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will meet New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters in Helsinki on 30 October.

29.5.2026 | Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will open the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris on 3 June. Finland will chair the meeting for the first time in more than 40 years. Several ministers from Finland will attend the meeting. In Paris, Prime Minister Orpo will also have a bilateral meeting with the French President Emmanuel Macron.

16.4.2026 | Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen has been invited to join the Young Global Leaders network of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Young Global Leaders is a collaborative community of exceptional young leaders from politics, research, business and other sectors. A new working paper by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) analyses how wellbeing economy practices have been integrated into decision-making in ten countries. This comparison will also help Finland create its own governance model.

30.11.2022 | Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern met in Auckland on Wednesday morning local time. This was the first ever visit by a Finnish Prime Minister to New Zealand and the first visit by an EU Head of State or Government to the country since it lifted the travel restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

27.9.2024 | Finland has joined the US-led multilateral declaration on submarine cable security. The parties to the declaration agreed on common objectives and means for improving the security and resilience of submarine cables.

2.4.2025 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will attend a meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels on 3–4 April.

25.4.2025 | A large group of international experts attended a conference held in Helsinki on 23 April 2025 focusing on the protection of critical underwater infrastructure and the threats posed to it by international maritime transport. Co-operation between different authorities is needed to address these wide-ranging threats.

14.7.2023 | A new agreement on working holiday arrangements, adopted by the Finnish Parliament last autumn, will make it easier for young people aged 18–30 in the partner countries to familiarise themselves with the other country and work on a temporary basis to finance their stay.

6.10.2022 | The reciprocal agreement will give Finnish and Japanese nationals aged 18 to 30 the right to stay in the partner country so that they will also have the right to work to a limited extent in order to fund their travels. The government proposal on the adoption and implementation of the agreement on working holiday concluded with Japan has been submitted to Parliament. 

11.1.2024 | The Youth Mobility Agreement allows Canadian and Finnish young people aged 18 to 35 to explore the other country through temporary work and travel. The agreement enters into force on 1 March 2024.
