24.2.2025 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet on Tuesday 25 February in Brussels. Ministers will exchange views on the European Commission’s annual work programme and start preparations for the European Council in March. 28.5.2021 | Finland has allocated one million euros to support the flash appeal for Gaza, launched by United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA. The funding will be used to provide, for example, food, shelters and health services to Palestinians in Gaza.

19.9.2022 | World leaders are meeting again in the high-level week of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York. The week is an opportunity for Finland to reinforce partnerships, to emphasise the significance of the UN and multilateral cooperation in addressing global problems and to highlight themes that are important for Finland’s foreign and security policy.

16.9.2022 | The high-level meetings of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77) will start in New York on Monday 19 September. Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will attend ministerial events in New York and have bilateral meetings with their counterparts and with representatives of the UN. Minister Skinnari also has Team Finland programme.

21.6.2022 | The annual meeting of the European Goose Management International Working Group under the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds AEWA will be held in Helsinki on 21–23 June 2022. AEWA and its Individual Species Working Groups (ISWG) are important for Finland in terms of the protection and sustainable exploitation of the migratory aquatic and shore birds found in Finland.

5.8.2021 | Finland has sponsored the United Nations Junior Professional Officers (JPO) Programme since 1965, encouraging young Finnish nationals to work in UN agencies and international financial and research institutions. The newly selected Finnish JPO will be posted to work in the UN Global Pulse innovation initiative.

27.5.2021 | Last year, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) brought sexual and reproductive health services available to 41 million women and youth. In 2021, Finland’s support to UNFPA will be EUR 33 million.

10.9.2021 | Today, on 13 September 2021, the United Nations is organising a High-level Ministerial Meeting on the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan. The UN estimates that approximately half of the population of the country need humanitarian assistance. Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will represent Finland at the meeting.

18.8.2021 | This week, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has released a non-return advisory calling for all countries to suspend the return of Afghan nationals to their country of origin. The advisory also applies to the return of asylum seekers who have had their claims rejected. Finland has followed this policy for several weeks now.

17.9.2021 | The high-level meetings of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) will start in New York on Monday 20 September. 13.11.2025 | Finland continues to strengthen its collaboration with the United Nations to scale responsible innovations that support sustainable development. In October 2025, the UN Global Pulse Accelerator Programme held its third cohort workshop in Helsinki, co-hosted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. 

3.5.2021 | Finland has been accepted as one of the Global Champions countries promoting the preparation of the High-level Dialogue on Energy to be held in New York in September 2021 in connection to the UN General Assembly.

15.7.2025 | The Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met for its 134th session in London on 7–11 July 2025. Finland has been a member of the Council during the current term 2024–2025.
