19.12.2024 | The President of the Republic approved the amendment to the Act on the State Television and Radio Fund on 29 December 2024. It is to enter into force on 1 January 2025. The amendment will freeze the annual index increases to funding of the Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE. The amendment implements the policies of the parliamentary YLE working group.

20.11.2025 | This week, 17–23 November 2025, is Children’s Rights Week. As in previous years, the Children’s Rights Week session was held at the Government Banquet Hall. Children and youth from various parts of Finland were invited to the session to discuss matters important to them with members of the Government.

7.8.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is prepared to officially start the drafting of amendments to the Act on the Finnish Broadcasting Company to increase the openness of the company. The amendments are based on the Government Programme.

12.11.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will host the national children’s Independence Day celebration on Wednesday 3 December at the National Opera House in Helsinki. This year, two children born in 2015 from each municipality have been invited to attend.

27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved amendments to the Act on the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle. The amendments will implement the legislative changes outlined by the parliamentary working group on Yle. They also incorporate the criteria and procedures for the appointment and dismissal of the management of public service media providers required by the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). The legislative amendments will enter into force on 8 August 2025.

26.10.2023 | The Government issued a decree amending the Government Decree on Radio Spectrum Usage and Frequency Allocation Plan, i.e. Spectrum Decree. The amendment will release a national radio network from YLE Puhe (YLE Talk).

27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved an Act on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act will enter into force on 8 August 2025. The EMFA aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

28.11.2025 | Finnish Biodiversity Award 2023–2024 was given to an actor that had done something inspiring to halt biodiversity loss. The winner of the competition was Crowdsorsa mobile game that has already helped fight against invasive alien species in Finland on a total of 4 million square metres. Honourable mentions were awarded to the cities of Kauniainen and Vantaa. The prizes were awarded by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

23.4.2025 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ programme features a discussion on how to involve young people in peace negotiations. The discussion will take place on the World Village Festival’s Speaker’s Stage at Tiivistämö on 24 May at 13.15. Participants are Adina Nivukoski, Finland's Youth Delegate to the UN, and Senior Specialist Laura Hendry from the Foreign Ministry’s Centre for Peace Mediation.
