16.4.2026 | Finland will refrain from participating in the Venice Biennale at the political level if Russia takes part in the Art Exhibition. Participation will be maintained at the level of public officials. Finland emphasises its backing of Ukraine and its commitment to European cooperation.

12.4.2024 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will travel to Italy to attend the opening of the Finnish exhibition at the Venice Art Biennale on Wednesday 17 April. The Minister will also visit the Pavilions of the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Ukraine, the United States and Iceland, among other things.

22.9.2025 | The Ministry of Education and Culture’s proportion of the 2026 budget proposal is EUR 8.9 billion, which is some EUR 4.4 million more than in the 2025 Budget. Despite continued pressure on general government finances, the proposal maintains investment in education, research and competence.

8.5.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will open the traditional Europe Day events at the Helsinki Central Library Oodi on Friday 9 May. Along with Prime Minister Orpo, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will speak at a seminar celebrating Finland’s 30 years as an EU Member State.

26.10.2021 | The Artists’ Association of Lapland was a scholarship recipient of the Barents Scholarship for Cultural Cooperation. The scholarship amounts to EUR 10,000. The Barents Scholarships for Cultural Cooperation were awarded on Tuesday 26 October in Tromsø, Norway. Four scholarships were awarded.

14.4.2022 | Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Denmark and the Faroe Islands will together launch a Nordic Carbon Neutral Bauhaus project to promote low-carbon construction and the circular economy. The European Commission has selected the joint Nordic project to be part of the extensive New European Bauhaus initiative. The project will strengthen the status of architecture, design and art in the transition towards sustainable and carbon-neutral construction.

17.6.2021 | The Government has appointed Kimmo Levä, (MA), as Director General of the Finnish National Gallery. Levä has held various leadership positions in the museum sector since 1994. The new position runs from 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2026.

4.6.2024 | The eight winners of the 2024 State Awards for Public Information were praised for calling attention to issues that would have otherwise been sidelined, shaking up entrenched attitudes, and promoting international perspectives in the Finnish public debate.

6.5.2021 | Event guarantee aims to reduce the financial risk of organising events. The guarantee is a payment commitment given to event organisers in advance for the costs declared by them. If the event were cancelled or its size restricted by law or order of an authority, compensation would be paid for the costs incurred.

3.5.2024 | On 3 May, the Ministry of Education and Culture published the 2024 Bildung Review, which compiles statistical and other information on the administrative branch of the Ministry, its development and situation in international comparison. The themes for 2024 are regionality, life cycle and the fields of education and culture. The objective of the annually published review is to create an overall picture of the extensive administrative branch as a whole.

22.3.2023 | Finland’s Sámi Parliament and the Finnish Presidency of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council will organise together with the European Parliament a Summit of Barents Euro-Arctic Indigenous Sámi People in Brussels from 22 to 24 March 2023.

1.9.2021 | The first prize in the design competition for a memorial honouring President Mauno Koivisto has been awarded to Kirsi Kaulanen’s proposal Välittäjä (The Mediator). The competition was of an artistically high standard, with 110 entries received. Prizes were awarded to three entries in the competition, while three received commendation awards.
