9.3.2026 | Close to half of wage-earners in workplaces that use artificial intelligence (AI) responded that AI has increased the efficiency of their work. Meanwhile, one third of them estimate that AI has improved the quality of their work.

This is the conclusion to be made from the answers to the 2025 Climate and Nature Barometers. In municipal policy green investments are identified as sources of vitality, but opinions diverge with respect to their environmental impacts. 15.5.2025 | According to the Working Life Barometer, wage-earners often experience time pressure and interruptions in their work. On the other hand, the atmosphere at workplaces has improved. While learning new things is still supported at workplaces, the amount of training offered by employers has decreased clearly in recent years.

18.4.2024 | According to the Working Life Barometer, nearly three quarters of employees considered their possibilities to reconcile work and other life good in 2023. On the other hand, there is plenty of room for improvement in competence development at workplaces.

14.9.2023 | The expectations of SMEs have improved since last spring. According to the new SME Barometer, company expectations have recovered from the exceptionally negative spring to the same levels as a year ago as the effects of the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine have stabilised. However, expectations remain negative. The state of the economy is expected to deteriorate slightly over the next year. SMEs’ willingness to invest remains modest.

29.11.2023 | This autumn, the revised Labour Force Barometer focuses on the future prospects of the technology industry and the social welfare, health and wellbeing sectors. The greatest shortage of labour is in the health and social services sector, where skilled workers are needed for the care of older people, in particular. The outlook for the technology sector is expected to improve after next summer.

12.4.2023 | At the end of 2023, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will publish its first Labour Force Barometer, which will contain data on the need for labour and skills by occupation and sector. Previously, information on labour needs has been published in the Occupational Barometer, which will now be renamed. The aim is to create a better situation picture of the labour market in Finland as a whole and in the regions.

Besides climate change, biodiversity loss has emerged as a serious environmental crisis, and the majority of the people are of the opinion that solutions to climate change and biodiversity loss should be sought as a whole.

15.3.2023 | Wage and salary earners’ ability to influence their own work has started to increase after a long steady period. Based on several different indicators, the majority of wage and salary earners consider the quality of working life good. However, the results from different groups of wage and salary earners are diverging, according to the Working Life Barometer 2022 published on 15 March 2023.

1.11.2022 | This autumn’s Occupational Barometer indicates that the increase in labour shortages has levelled off. At the national level, the Occupational Barometer nevertheless identified 56 shortage occupations out of 200 key occupations.

14.2.2022 | The beginning of 2022 was exceptional for SMEs as the coronavirus pandemic started to worsen again. This situation is reflected in the expectations of near-term economic growth among small and medium-sized companies. The expectations have fallen but remain positive. Additionally, to the majority of the SMEs that responded to the survey the economic conditions have remained unchanged from last autumn’s barometer.

25.11.2021 | The short-term expectations of SMEs in the healthcare and social services sector have become increasingly positive since 2020.

22.3.2021 | According to preliminary data from the Working Life Barometer, the coronavirus pandemic has increased uncertainty among wage and salary earners about their job security compared to 2019, but to a significantly smaller degree than during any other economic crisis in the 30-year history of the Barometer. Remote work, the use of lay-offs and support measures introduced for companies have alleviated fears of redundancy among wage and salary earners compared with previous economic crises.

24.3.2022 | At the end of the second coronavirus year, the views of wage and salary earners on the labour market were fairly positive, according to preliminary data from the Working Life Barometer 2021, which was published on 24 March 2022. More than 80 per cent of them felt that their capacity to work was good in relation to the physical and mental demands of the work.
