25.5.2022 | On 25 May 2022, the Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament that would temporarily lessen the obligation to lower the obligation to distribute renewable fuels in 2022. The objective of the proposal is to decrease the prices of transport fuels.

4.11.2025 | On 3 November 2025, the European Commission announced that 61 projects had been selected for funding under the latest Innovation Fund call for net-zero technologies. The projects will receive a total of EUR 2.9 billion in support. Five Finnish projects are among those selected: NotNukeOne, SCOOP, MAGHYC, NEXT HYDROMET and SB-VARKAUS.

13.11.2024 | On 13 November 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published the national programme on the distribution infrastructure for alternative fuels. The programme, which was drawn up in broad-based cooperation with stakeholders, facilitates the implementation of EU regulation.

30.10.2023 | The European Commission is preparing a draft Implementing Regulation on considering the emission standards for cars and light-duty commercial vehicles running on carbon neutral fuels in the type approvals. The Ministry of Transport and Communications informed Parliament of the upcoming initiative on 27 October 2023.

28.6.2024 | On 24 June, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided that the Ministry of Finance would continue preparing a tax subsidy for large industrial investments that promote the clean transition. This tax subsidy would accelerate investments in the green transition.

29.1.2024 | The REPowerEU call for applications in the Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland (Recovery and Resilience Plan) has been launched. The call will close on 29 February 2024. Businesses and organisations can apply for financial support for energy investments that promote the clean transition. The call for applications includes approximately EUR 54.5 million in investment aid for projects where the eligible costs exceed EUR 5 million.

12.2.2024 | On 12 February 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment published a report on the changes to the distribution obligation of transport fuels. AFRY Management Consulting Oy produced the report on behalf of the Ministry. The report’s purpose was to evaluate the effects of the proposed changes to the distribution obligation outlined in the Government Programme.

7.7.2023 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) agreed on revisions to the IMO greenhouse gas strategy. The Committee met in London, 3–7 July 2023.

20.9.2023 | Finland will make its first country strategy for India. The DESI Initiative will strengthen Finland’s competitive positioning on the Indian market.

4.8.2023 | Before Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, approximately one third of the energy used in Finland was imported from Russia. That share was reduced almost to zero in a few months, and the energy war launched by Russia increased consumer prices remarkably. As the energy markets have changed, it is the time to look how Russian energy was replaced and what more permanent effects trade changes will have.

2.6.2022 | The Medium-term Climate Change Policy Plan presents the package of measures by which Finland will halve emissions from the effort-sharing sector by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. The Government approved and gave to Parliament the Report on the Medium-term Climate Change Policy Plan on 2 June 2022.

The measures of the three-phased roadmap are particularly relevant for road transport, which accounts for the majority of transport emissions. The Ministry of Transport and Communications invites comments on the roadmap, i.e. the Resolution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from domestic transport, by 19 February 2021.
