21.1.2025 | A report on the possible need to make amendments to board-level employee representation was submitted by rapporteur Jukka Ahtela (Master of Laws, Trained on the Bench) to Minister of Employment Arto Satonen on 21 January 2025. The report will now be discussed by a tripartite working group. The Government will assess the need for amendments in its mid-term policy review session in spring 2025.

8.5.2026 | At the presidential session on Friday 8 May, the President of the Republic appointed Erik Lundberg to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Addis Ababa and Pasi Hellman to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Tokyo as of 1 September 2026 and Maria Ågren to serve as Roving Ambassador for Turkmenistan as of 1 June 2026.

21.5.2025 | On 20 May 2025, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed three working groups to prepare the measures agreed by the Government in its mid-term policy review session in spring 2025. The working groups will prepare measures concerning the board-level employee representation, the Act on the Protection of Privacy in Working Life, and the time for taking carried-over holiday entitlement.

25.11.2025 | The EU ministers responsible for education, youth, culture and sport will meet in Brussels on 27–28 November. The Council’s agenda includes vocational education and training, the European Education Area, the Erasmus+ programme, the importance of culture for democratic resilience, the AgoraEU programme, and democracy and transparency in sport. The Oulu European Capital of Culture 2026 project will also be presented at the meeting.

20.2.2026 | EU:s utrikesministrar samlas till ett möte i utrikesrådet i Bryssel den 23 februari. Finlands representant är politiska statssekreteraren Pasi Rajala.

1.7.2025 | The amendments to the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings (Co-operation Act) will enter into force on 1 July 2025. The aim is to reduce the administrative burden caused by the current legislation, especially in companies with fewer than 50 employees. Another objective is to speed up the ability of all companies to react to changes in the operating environment.

25.2.2026 | Den internationella nyhetsrapporteringen om Finland har sedan 2022 främst gällt de säkerhetspolitiska frågorna, vilket också var fallet 2025. Antalet nyhetsrubriker med anknytning till Finland har minskat något från året innan, men republikens president Alexander Stubb har haft en betydligt synligare roll som en internationell aktör. Undersökningarna visar att Finlandsbilden har blivit positivare och att kännedomen om Finland har ökat jämfört med året innan.

28.6.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will organise a consultation round on the amendments to the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings (hereinafter, the Co-operation Act) on 28 June−23 August 2024. The amendments concern raising the threshold for applying the Act and shortening the duration of change negotiations. The amendments were prepared in a tripartite working group that was not unanimous in its work.

13.12.2023 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has appointed a tripartite working group to prepare amendments to the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings (hereinafter, the Co-operation Act) and issues related to the board representation of employees. The changes are part of the Government’s package of labour market reforms.

28.11.2024 | On 28 November 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal for amendments to the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings to raise the threshold for applying the Act and shorten the duration of change negotiations.
