15.1.2026 | The European Capital of Culture year in Oulu begins with a three-day Opening Festival starting on Friday, 16 January. The programme features nearly 200 events, offering a diverse range of experiences – most of them free of charge and open to people of all ages. Throughout the year, Oulu will be alive with cultural events, performances and exhibitions.

18.6.2025 | Senate Properties will begin a major renovation of the National Archives’ main building at Rauhankatu 17 in spring 2026. At the same time, the building will be adapted into a shared workspace for the National Archives, the Institute for the Languages of Finland, the Finnish National Agency for Education, the Accessibility Library Celia, and the Research Council of Finland. These agencies will move into the premises in autumn 2028.

9.4.2025 | Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist will travel to Kraków and attend the EU Sport Forum on 10 and 11 April. The Minister will take part in the Forum’s panel discussion, together with Ukraine’s Minister for Youth and Sports Matviy Bidny. 22.1.2025 | Finland has nominated a series of 13 properties designed by architect Alvar Aalto's office for inclusion in the World Heritage List. The properties, named "Aalto Works", represent Aalto's modern and humane architecture. At the request of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Finnish Heritage Agency has drawn up a nomination proposal, working together with Alvar Aalto Foundation and the stakeholders of the architectural sites.

1.3.2023 | Parliament adopted the new Building Act on 1 March 2023. The act incorporates measures to combat climate change comprehensively into the building legislation. The act will also smoothen the construction processes, boost a circular economy and digitalisation and improve the quality of building. The Building Act will enter into force on 1 January 2025.

24.11.2025 | The Nordic Baltic Youth Summit will be held in Finland for the first time. The summit participants will draft policy recommendations addressing challenges related to the green transition and youth employment and submit them to Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Mika Poutala.

10.12.2024 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Timeout Foundation are hosting a series of 25 Timeout dialogues to discuss the future of social security. The aim is to increase public debate on social security, strengthen dialogue between various parties, increase citizens’ participation in the social security reform, and produce information to support decision-making.
