6.5.2026 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will attend a meeting convened by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in Wiesbaden, Germany, on 7 May.

20.11.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will attend the European Union–African Union Summit in Angola on 24–25 November. From there, Prime Minister Orpo will continue on to South Africa, where he will take part in a trade mission promoting bilateral relations between Finland and South Africa on 26–27 November.

25.11.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the seventh EU-African Union (AU) Summit in Luanda, Angola on 24 and 25 November. The summit was attended by heads of state or government from both continents and by President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen from the European side.

13.6.2025 | Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will meet Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya Musalia Mudavadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Benin Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica Arnoldo André Tinoco and Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand Russ Jalichandra in connection with the Kultaranta Talks on 16–17 June.

23.6.2025 | Finland will start as co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition (MFC), which advocates for media freedom and the safety of journalists. Finland will hold the two-year co-chairmanship together with Germany and succeed Estonia when it concludes its term as co-chair on 30 June.

26.1.2026 | The President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, will visit Helsinki on Monday 26 January. The African Development Bank (AfDB) is the premier development financier on the African continent and a key partner for Finland in advancing sustainable economic growth and development in Africa at a time when global economic and security policy shifts are reshaping development funding.

19.3.2025 | Senegal’s Minister for African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall, will visit Helsinki on 20 March and meet Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen.

10.11.2024 | The grave memorial for former president Martti Ahtisaari was unveiled in Helsinki on St. Martin’s Day, 10 November, exactly one year after former president Ahtisaari’s funeral. With the memorial, the Government honours former president Ahtisaari’s memory and important life’s work.

1.12.2025 | Finland’s second National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security has been published. The Action Plan serves as a roadmap for involving young people in peace and security work in ministries and organisations alike, both nationally and internationally. The ownership and participation of young people was the guiding principle in the preparation of the Action Plan.

17.12.2025 | Finland will participate in the 17th replenishment of the African Development Fund (AfDF-17) to support sustainable economic growth in the poorest countries on the continent. The objective of the African Development Fund (AfDF) is to reduce poverty by promoting the economic and social development of African countries. Finland is also involved in supporting Africa’s debt sustainability.

3.11.2023 | A growing number of the world’s conflicts are sparked by differences in religion and worldview. We need religious and traditional peacemakers to understand the underlying causes of crises, to prevent crises and to support mediation efforts. In ten years, the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers has grown into a significant actor in faith-based mediation. Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs has supported the Network from the start.

10.11.2023 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo delivered words of tribute at the memorial ceremony for former president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari at the Government Banquet Hall on 10 November 2023.

18.7.2023 | The leaders of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) met at a two-day summit in Brussels on 17 and 18 July. The aim of the third EU-CELAC Summit was to enhance cooperation and demonstrate a shared commitment to maintaining the rules-based international order.

For 365 days, this unjustified, unprovoked, and illegal military attack has caused unimaginable suffering, death, and destruction on a scale not seen on our continent since World War II. Millions have had to flee the safety of their homes, families are being torn apart, and the heinous attacks on civilian population and critical infrastructure continue to hurt the innocent and the vulnerable.

27.6.2025 | The EU heads of state and government made important decisions to enhance security at the European Council in Brussels on 26 June. Support for Ukraine will continue and measures to strengthen European defence will be accelerated. The leaders also discussed the EU’s relations with the rest of the world and European competitiveness. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.
