15.12.2023 | Today, on 15 December, the Ministry of the Environment has opened a call for applications where municipalities, joint municipal authorities, research institutes and associations can apply for funding for projects that promote the decarbonisation of the built environment or climate change adaptation. The total amount of funding to be applied for is EUR 800,000 and the deadline for applications is 28 February 2024.

2.1.2024 | Entities obliged to carry out customer due diligence under the Act on Preventing Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing would have better access to information on politically exposed persons if the information were processed using a centralised national information system. The Ministry of Finance is requesting comments on its assessment of the matter.

26.1.2024 | The proposal for a regulation banning products made with forced labour in the EU market has advanced to trilogues between representatives of the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission. The Regulation is part of a legislative package on responsible business operations.

18.10.2022 | This study covered the economic contribution of copyright or copyright industries from 2016 to 2020 in Finland. The relative contribution of all copyright industries has slightly increased during the years under examination; while in 2016 this contribution was 5.44 percent, the respective figure for 2020 was 5.69 percent.

21.9.2022 | The European Commission proposes regulation that would effectively combat forced labour. According to the Commission, it is unacceptable that goods produced by people who have been threatened or forced to work are sold in European shops. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will organise a stakeholder event on EU proposal on forced labour on September 29.

18.10.2022 | The aim of this report dealing with data protection and the copyright infrastructure is to promote the development of the digital services provided by collective management organisations for copyright (CMOs). In order to use the ISNI identifier there was a need to clarify how and to what extent CMOs can supply personal data to the ISNI database and other copyright management organisations considering the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation.

10.11.2022 | In September 2022, the European Commission proposed regulation that would ban products made with forced labour. While the Government supports the proposal’s objective, certain points need to be considered during the negotiations.

20.1.2022 | The Government has amended the Decree on Communicable Diseases in respect of notifications to be submitted to the communicable diseases register maintained by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. From now on, physicians will not be required to submit communicable disease notifications of severe infections caused by the novel coronavirus.

4.7.2019 | The Government has amended the decree on narcotic substances, preparations and plants (Narcotics Decree) and the decree on psychoactive substances prohibited on the consumer market. The aim of the amendments is to prohibit new psychoactive substances, to prevent their recreational use and to enable more efficient drug control.

12.3.2026 | On 12 March 2026, the European Court of Human Rights issued a decision in a case concerning the expropriation of real property and the amount of compensation paid for expropriation. The Court unanimously declared the applicants’ complaint under Article 1 (protection of property) of Protocol No. 1 to the European Convention on Human Rights inadmissible as manifestly ill-founded.

10.11.2025 | The Finnish trade policy magazine Kauppapolitiikka has launched a new, free service on its website that brings together figures on Finland’s trade in goods and services by country, region, and country group. The service, which uses open data from Finnish Customs and Statistics Finland, makes it easier to browse and use statistics.

19.12.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments a proposal to amend the Firearms Act. The draft proposal takes into account the need for amendments that has emerged in the application of the act following the reforms introduced to implement the most recent amendment to the EU Firearms Directive. The consultation round closes on 30 January 2026.

27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved an Act on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act will enter into force on 8 August 2025. The EMFA aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

25.2.2025 | The number of unemployed jobseekers rose by 34,600 from January of last year. The number of new vacancies reported totalled 65,600. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies in January was 95,400, which is 38,000 fewer than a year ago.

6.3.2025 | On 6 March 2025, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) delivered a decision on cases concerning additional tax on pension income. The ECtHR unanimously held that there had been no violation of Article 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and Article 1 of Protocol No. 12 (general prohibition of discrimination) to the Convention. The ECtHR declared the complaint under Article 13 (right to an effective remedy) of the Convention inadmissible.
