8.1.2025 | Finland has for the first time delivered assistance from an EU-funded rescEU stockpile to a country that has requested assistance. This week, a truckload of personal protective equipment and chemical detectors was delivered to Ukraine to respond to the needs of the country's rescue services.

12.4.2022 | Finnish people see the situation in Ukraine as a significant security threat, but everyone has their own way of reacting to the crisis. Older people are more concerned about the situation than young people and young adults. Most people understand the importance of having a sufficient supply of foodstuffs at home, for example, but people living in sparsely populated areas have more empirical knowledge than city residents of other forms of preparedness.

21.9.2023 | The Government has appointed Leena Räsänen, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, as Director General of the Finnish Food Authority from 8 October 2023 to 7 October 2028. The current Director General Antti-Jussi Oikarinen will retire. A total of 16 persons applied for the post by the deadline of 24 July 2023.

14.11.2023 | Minister Sari Essayah visited China to promote the business opportunities of Finnish companies and exports. The agenda included the signing of a protocol on the export conditions for poultry meat, and an agreement was reached on starting cooperation on food safety. Minister Essayah also visited a trade fair where Finnish companies showcased their products for the Chinese market.

21.7.2022 | On 21 July 2022, the European Union imposed new sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. The new sanctions include a ban on imports of Russian gold. The new sanctions extend and specify previously imposed sanctions and include new provisions on their implementation.

13.8.2019 | Customs enhances the combat against African swine fever by training a new customs dog to detect foodstuffs of animal origin at Helsinki Airport. The new food detector dog will be placed at Helsinki Airport, because the African swine fever had spread to Asia in the last years and because a great number of passengers travel from Asia to Finland.

14.4.2021 | Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä and Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will make a virtual Team Finland visit to Sweden on 15 April 2021. The visit is intended to intensify trade relations between Finnish and Swedish companies, particularly in the food and beverage industries, the textile industry and the sustainable healthcare sectors.

28.2.2019 | Satu Haapaniemi (M.Soc.Sc.) has been appointed Special Adviser to Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä. Haapaniemi will take up her duties on 4 March. Haapaniemi will serve as Special Adviser Risto Lahti’s deputy until 19 April, while Lahti stands as a candidate in the parliamentary elections.

9.1.2019 | China has granted for the first time an export licence to establishments of a Finnish company that manufactures infant formula. Export licence to China is a significant step forward in food trade between Finland and China. The licence was granted during the visit of Permanent Secretary Jaana Husu-Kallio in Beijing on 8 January 2019.

31.5.2021 | Assisting the Prime Minister in directing the Government, the Prime Minister’s Office is also in charge of the Prime Minister’s official residence and its maintenance and support services in accordance with the Government Act and the Government Rules of Procedure. The payment of and remuneration to members of the Government and the grounds for their allowances are established in the Act on Ministers’ Pay and Allowances.
