12.3.2026 | An OSCE Moscow Mechanism report on the developments in Georgia in respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms since spring 2024 was presented at the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on 12 March. It offers recommendations to the Georgian authorities, the OSCE participating States and the international community on how to address problems of democracy, the rule of law and human rights.

15.1.2026 | Today the Government decided in its plenary session to submit to Parliament the Government Report on the Application of Language Legislation in 2025. The report provides important monitoring data on the current state of Finland’s national languages and other indigenous languages and on the realisation of linguistic rights.

2.2.2024 | The EU Foreign Ministers will convene for an informal Gymnich meeting in Brussels on 2–3 February. The Ministers will discuss the relations between the EU and Africa and EU-Türkiye relations. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

13.4.2022 | The legal aid e-services will be reformed in the beginning of May. The introduction of a new platform will improve the usability and information security of the e-services.

27.6.2023 | The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold its second regular session of this year from 19 June to 14 July. Before each session, as part of Finland’s contribution to the work of the Human Rights Council, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs asks civil society organisations for their views on Finland's priorities and objectives. Many civil society representatives again gathered at Merikasarmi, Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

17.1.2022 | There is great demand for Finnish expertise in the field of the rule of law around the world. The Rule of Law Centre, established jointly by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the University of Helsinki, supports the implementation of democracy, the rule of law and human rights in developing countries.

9.12.2019 | Finland’s Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen will attend the EU General Affairs Council in Brussels on Tuesday 10 December 2019. She will chair this meeting with a focus on the preparations for the December European Council, the proposal concerning the multiannual financial framework (MFF) prepared by the Finnish Presidency, and rule of law issues.

15.11.2019 | The EU–Western Balkans Ministerial Forum on Justice and Home Affairs will take place in Skopje, North Macedonia, on 18–19 November 2019. Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson will chair the justice affairs session. Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo will chair the home affairs session.

29.11.2019 | The last official Justice and Home Affairs Council of Finland’s Presidency will convene in Brussels on 2–3 December 2019. The justice ministers’ session on Tuesday, 3 December, will be chaired by Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson.

11.1.2019 | We received information today that the Oulu Police Department has initiated a criminal investigation into four new suspected sexual offences against girls under the age of 15. Those suspected of these crimes are reportedly young men with a foreign background.
