The Ministry of the Environment has launched an evaluation of the effectiveness of the Act on the Protection of the Built Heritage. The aim of the evaluation is to produce information on the functioning of the Act and on possible development needs.

25.8.2025 | Finnish Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala has signed a Ministry of the Environment decision to establish a national landscape management area in Saija, Salla. The purpose of the landscape management area is to preserve and manage the natural and cultural landscape, its beauty, historical characteristics and associated values.

1.6.2026 | On 29 May, Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala signed a decision of the Ministry of the Environment on the establishment of the Tampere National Urban Park. The National Urban Park extending from the national landscape of Tammerkoski rapid to lake shores and several districts of the city combine the characteristic landscapes and built environment of Tampere.

28.4.2026 | The Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy has decided in favour of recruiting 500 young people for fixed-term positions in central government this year. An appropriation of EUR 4 million will be reserved for the recruitment in the second supplementary budget for 2026. The aim is to help young people find work in a challenging employment landscape.

22.4.2026 | Finland has published a revised country brand strategy that sets out how Finland’s image will be shaped internationally in the coming years. The new strategy, Making happiness happen, presents Finland as a country that enables people to lead a good life in a well-organised society.

23.4.2026 | The evaluation of Finland’s National World Heritage Strategy (2015–2025) finds that implementation has been broad‑based and substantive. The strategy has reinforced Finland’s standing as a responsible steward of world heritage and deepened cooperation between world heritage sites. The findings and the role of the strategy were discussed at the World Heritage Forum in Vaasa.

15.9.2025 | EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner visited Finland on Monday 15 September at the invitation of Finnish Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen. During his visit, he learnt about the arrangements at the Vaalimaa border crossing point and the fence being built on the border.

28.5.2025 | The European Commission is expected to submit a proposal on the revision of the Cybersecurity Regulation at the end of 2025. The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications submitted a report on this matter to Parliament on 26 May 2025.

3.4.2025 | The draft National Transport System Plan, or the draft Transport 12 Plan, and the related environmental report, were circulated for comments from 20 December 2024 to 5 March 2025. A total of 250 comments were received. Overall the update was largely considered appropriate in relation to the changes that have taken place in the operating environment.

21.9.2023 | The Government has issued a resolution on communications during the current government term. The resolution replaces the communication strategy of the previous government term. The resolution describes the common objectives and methods of government communications and is an important element of the Government’s strategic leadership.
