15.1.2026 | Veikkaus Oy’s monopoly on running gambling games will end. Under the new Gambling Act, the running of betting games, online slot and casino games, and online money bingo will be opened to competition under a licensing system. In its session on 15 January, the Government proposed that the President of the Republic approve the Gambling Act on 16 January. Most provisions of the new act will enter into force on 1 July 2027. 

27.1.2026 | In the future, Finnvera’s financing solutions will be available for some of the largest investments and ownership arrangements in agriculture. This is enabled by the eligibility of agricultural limited liability companies for financing starting 1 May 2026.

22.12.2025 | ​​​​​​​On 22 December 2022, the President of the Republic approved the legislative amendment to raise the maximum age of reservists to 65 years.

18.12.2025 | A report based on the Government Programme assesses the need for personal sanctions related to cartels. According to the report, there is no clear need for personal sanctions; instead, competition processes should be accelerated in general. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will begin an investigation into the matter.

25.11.2025 | Finland will publish its new national Action Plan for the Istanbul Convention on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The objective of the Istanbul Convention is to ensure that every girl and woman has a future without violence. Finland’s new action plan, covering the years 2026–2033, outlines several long-term objectives and lists altogether 37 practical measures.

18.11.2021 | On 18 November 2021, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend the Accounting Act. The amendment aims to make it easier for Finnish authorities to determine whether foreign companies have business activities in Finland and whether they are liable to pay taxes in Finland.

18.3.2024 | Oikeusministeriön työryhmä valmistelee parhaillaan asunto-osakeyhtiölain ajantasaistamista. Kokonaisuuden ensimmäinen lakiehdotus on valmistunut ja lähetetty lausunnoille 17. huhtikuuta saakka. Työryhmän ehdotus helpottaisi osakehuoneiston hallintaanottoa koskevien tiedoksiantojen toimittamista.

5.1.2024 | Oikeusministeriö on asettanut työryhmän, jonka tehtävänä on valmistella ehdotus asunto-osakeyhtiölain ajantasaistamiseksi. Samalla asetetaan myös seurantaryhmä tukemaan työryhmän työtä.

11.3.2025 | The working group on responsible international cooperation set up by the Ministry of Education and Culture has published recommendations that emphasise openness, reciprocity and risk management in international cooperation in higher education and research. The recommendations aim to safeguard academic freedom while also ensuring that international cooperation upholds democracy and ethical choices.

6.3.2025 | The Government submitted a legislative proposal relating to micromobility to Parliament on 6 March 2025. The aim of the proposal is to improve the safety of electric scooters and other micromobility vehicles.

7.8.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is prepared to officially start the drafting of amendments to the Act on the Finnish Broadcasting Company to increase the openness of the company. The amendments are based on the Government Programme.

29.8.2024 | Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen will meet representatives of the forest sector on 10 September. The Ministry of the Environment is exploring further actions that could be taken to protect threatened habitats.

17.12.2024 | The Ministry of the Interior has submitted to the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman a follow-up report on the preparation of the allocation of the refugee quota. The report requested by the Ombudsman was also submitted to the Chancellor of Justice. As the matter is of major importance to society and of interest to many, the Ministry of the Interior will make the report available to the public.

5.9.2024 | On 5 September 2024, the Government proposed to amend the Act on Finnish Industry Investment (Tesi) and to enact a new act on a wholly state-owned limited liability company known as Teollisuustuki Oy. Following the amendments, Tesi Group would be better positioned to operate as an effective state capital investment and corporate financing company.
