7.5.2026 | The maximum term of new housing loans will be increased to 40 years. This new legislation seeks to boost the housing market and construction. The Government has proposed that the bill be approved by the President of the Republic and enter into force on 1 June.

25.1.2024 | The Government has decided to raise the maximum amounts of home savers bonus (ASP) loans intended for those buying their first home. The maximum amounts will rise between EUR 15,000 and 25,000 depending on the municipality where the home is located. The aim is to make it easier for people to purchase or build their first home. The new maximum amounts will be applied from 1 April 2024.

27.1.2026 | In the future, Finnvera’s financing solutions will be available for some of the largest investments and ownership arrangements in agriculture. This is enabled by the eligibility of agricultural limited liability companies for financing starting 1 May 2026.

17.12.2025 | Finland will participate in the 17th replenishment of the African Development Fund (AfDF-17) to support sustainable economic growth in the poorest countries on the continent. The objective of the African Development Fund (AfDF) is to reduce poverty by promoting the economic and social development of African countries. Finland is also involved in supporting Africa’s debt sustainability.

18.11.2025 | Finland has decided to use EUR one billion in financing from the EU’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) financial instrument to strengthen the defence industry. The plan is to use the financing for multinational joint procurement that will strengthen Finland’s ground combat capabilities and for developing drone performance capabilities in cooperation with Ukraine and its allies. The Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided on the matter on Tuesday 18 November.

27.11.2025 | The inauguration of the civil defence coalition co-led by Ukraine and Finland will take place in Kyiv on 27 November. Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend the inauguration to announce Finland’s EUR 11 million funding for constructing civil defence shelters. Finland has earlier confirmed approximately EUR two million in funding for the bilateral project, which makes Finland’s total support to Ukrainian civil defence sector about EUR 13 million.

Uudistuksen tavoitteena on selkeyttää asuntosäästämistä ja ensiasunnon hankintaa sekä omistusasuntolainojen valtiontakausta koskevaa lainsäädäntöä, jotta se vastaisi paremmin nykypäivän tarpeita ja vaatimuksia. 30.1.2025 | A working group preparing an overhaul of student financial aid has assessed the current situation in student financial aid and key development needs in the student financial aid system. Needs for development that were deemed essential include reinstating indexation and restructuring interest assistance and loan granting practices to improve the security of student loans. The working group's proposals were submitted to Minister Sandra Bergqvist on 30 January.

16.2.2023 | In future, new housing loans will have to be repaid in a maximum of 30 years. The new legislation will also limit loans to housing companies. The President of the Republic approved the bills on Thursday 16 February.

26.1.2023 | The Government has decided to keep the annual payments of the state-subsidised rental housing and right of occupancy housing loans (ARAVA) at the same level as in 2022. No adjustment according to the consumer price index will be made in 2023. The decision will curb the pressures to raise rents and management fees in the current situation where the property management costs and the residents’ living costs are also rising rapidly.
