24.10.2024 | The new Integration Act, which will enter into force at the beginning of 2025, will be supplemented by decrees. The Government’s integration policy is based on language learning, work, familiarisation with Finnish society and compliance with its rules.

19.6.2024 | Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist and representatives of cities, various organisations and young people met at a round table event on Wednesday 19 June to discuss the inclusion and leisure activities of multilingual young people. The aim of the event was to find concrete measures to increase multilingual young people’s inclusion and opportunities for leisure activities.

15.6.2022 | The voice of immigrants and multilingual Finns is not being heard in decision-making and public debate. A report published today by the Advisory Board for Ethnic Relations (ETNO) examines what kind of barriers to participation and exerting influence in society there are among immigrants and multilingual Finns and presents solutions for removing them.

13.10.2021 | The 2021 Democracy Recognition was granted to the task force on multilingual and multichannel COVID-19 communications, which the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) started in March 2020. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment (MEAE) has been working in the task force to develop COVID-19 communications so that correct information reach everyone who lives in Finland as extensively and effectively as possible. 

5.5.2021 | The Advisory Board for Ethnic Relations (ETNO) has published election materials in seven languages to raise awareness of municipal elections in Finland. These visual materials will be used to encourage multilingual municipal residents to participate in decision-making and vote in the forthcoming municipal elections.

15.7.2025 | The Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met for its 134th session in London on 7–11 July 2025. Finland has been a member of the Council during the current term 2024–2025.

28.6.2023 | The Ministry of Education and Culture has drawn up an action plan to promote diversity in the arts and culture. The action plan is based on the final report which a working group appointed by the Ministry published in 2021. The action plan aims to take into account the diversity of the Finnish population in all planning and decision-making in the arts and cultural policy.

26.10.2021 | The Artists’ Association of Lapland was a scholarship recipient of the Barents Scholarship for Cultural Cooperation. The scholarship amounts to EUR 10,000. The Barents Scholarships for Cultural Cooperation were awarded on Tuesday 26 October in Tromsø, Norway. Four scholarships were awarded.

22.1.2026 | Effective and proactive action is needed to address the exploitation of foreign workers. The Government is continuing its efforts to combat labour exploitation with a legislative project that will examine and prepare the necessary amendments to residence permit procedures.

13.2.2026 | An interim report has been published on the project implementing the Government’s Equality Statement. The report brings together information on the project’s progress between 2023 and 2026. According to the report, the work has already led to legislative reforms and increased concrete anti‑racism measures across different sectors.

13.11.2025 | International higher education students could play an even bigger role in driving Finland’s growth. Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen and Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie invited businesses, cities, higher education institutions and students to find solutions to improve international students’ employment prospects in Finland.

7.10.2025 | Finnish teachers in lower secondary education enjoy their work, but they are experiencing more stress than before. In Finland, the share of teachers considering a career change has increased, although it remains similar to the OECD average. Trust among colleagues is strong, and collaboration between teachers has grown.

18.12.2024 | The comprehensive reform of the Integration Act (KOTO24) aims to speed up the integration and employment of immigrants and to strengthen their knowledge of Finnish society. The reform is related to the T24 reform where employment and economic development services are transferred from the central government to municipalities.

The aim is to increase the immigrants’ own responsibility and strengthen the general government finances in accordance with the Government Programme.

25.1.2024 | As of 2025, municipalities will be required to offer multilingual civic orientation to integration clients. A report commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in May 2023 includes recommendations on how to implement the orientation in a high-quality and uniform manner across Finland.

29.9.2023 | The inclusive Startup Refugees entrepreneurship programme supports asylum seekers, refugees and other immigrants in the path towards work, entrepreneurship and skills development. The Finnish programme will compete in the finals of the Awards, which will be announced in November 2023.
