10.12.2025 | The latest survey reveals that private copying of music and video content in Finland remains on a downward trajectory. In 2025, approximately 661,000 residents copied music or video for private use, down from 709,000 in 2024. Despite fewer people copying, the total number of copied files remains stable at an estimated 161–194 million.

5.12.2025 | Finland’s national soundscape Ääniä has received recognition in a prestigious place-branding competition in London. The work, composed by Lauri Porra, was honoured in the Best Use of Design category assessing strategic country branding initiatives. The soundscape is published on music streaming platforms on 5 December 2025, just ahead of Finland’s Independence Day.

15.1.2026 | The European Capital of Culture year in Oulu begins with a three-day Opening Festival starting on Friday, 16 January. The programme features nearly 200 events, offering a diverse range of experiences – most of them free of charge and open to people of all ages. The creative industries still have a considerable amount of untapped potential for economic growth in Finland.

20.9.2024 | According to a new study, the volume of legal private copying has continued to decline in Finland. In 2024, some 130,000 people aged 15 to 79 living in Finland copied music and 616,000 video material. Altogether, 709,000 people copied music or video material, which is less than in 2023, when the number was 755,000.

1.11.2023 | According to the study, the total number of private copying among 15-79-year-olds has decreased. Compared with 2015, the number of people making private copying has halved. Similar information was last gathered by Taloustutkimus in 2022.

12.11.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will host the national children’s Independence Day celebration on Wednesday 3 December at the National Opera House in Helsinki. This year, two children born in 2015 from each municipality have been invited to attend.

24.11.2023 | On Saturday 25 November 2023, exactly one hundred years will have passed since the birth of former President of the Republic Mauno Koivisto. In honour of the centenary, the official memorial to former president Koivisto will be unveiled at an event at Little Parliament Park in Helsinki starting at 17.00.

7.12.2023 | This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In honour of the anniversary, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise, in cooperation with several partners, a national celebration ‘UN Declaration on Human Rights: 75 years of support to everyday human rights actions’ at Helsinki Music Centre on 8 December.

11.4.2024 | The Kalevala, the national epic of Finland, was awarded the European Commission’s European Heritage Label on 11 April 2024. The European Heritage Label is granted to sites, monuments, documents or events that have a particular significance for European history, culture and integration. The label was now granted to seven applicants.

29.3.2023 | Minister of Science and Culture Petri Honkonen has appointed CEO, Master of Music Kaisa Rönkkö as Director of the Arts Promotion Centre (Taike) for the term 1 August 2023–31 July 2028.
