13.6.2025 | The Government approved Finland’s participation in the third capital increase of IDB Invest, an investment company of the Inter-American Development Bank Group. Through the capital increase, IDB Invest will boost its lending and investments in the private sector and improve its risk-taking capacity and ability to leverage private capital to achieve broader development goals.

21.11.2025 | The EU trade ministers will convene for a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on 24 November to discuss the Union’s trade relations with the United States and China. The ministers will also take stock of the EU’s ongoing bilateral trade negotiations. The participation of Minister Tavio in the meeting has been cancelled. Finland will be represented by Finland’s EU Ambassador Jori Arvonen.

5.3.2024 | The State Treasury has used currency hedging in the purchase of F-35 fighter jets by the Finnish Defence Forces. The foreign currency forward contracts concluded on behalf of the state aim to limit currency risk associated with the investment. These contracts fix the price of the currency in advance, providing predictability and financial security for the investment.

11.12.2023 | A project at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) is working on a proposal for a well-being economy steering model for Finland that would strengthen wellbeing-oriented policymaking in Finland. A workshop, organized by THL and the OECD WISE Centre on 21–22 November 2023, brought together officials from pioneering countries to discuss the functionality and application of governance practices for a well-being framework.

26.6.2024 | The number of unemployed jobseekers rose by 27,500 from May of last year. The number of new vacancies reported totalled 46,100. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies in May was 93,700, which is 56,800 fewer than a year ago.

25.2.2020 | A total of 251,700 unemployed jobseekers were registered at the Employment and Economic Development Offices at the end of January, showing a year-on-year increase of 200. The number of unemployed jobseekers decreased by 6,000 from the previous month. The figures are from the Employment Service Statistics of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

28.1.2021 | On 28 January 2021, the Government submitted a proposal to Parliament to curb the rise in electricity distribution prices and cut the profits of distribution companies by amending the Electricity Market Act and the Act on the Supervision of the Electricity and Natural Gas Market. 22.7.2019 | Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä was in Brussels Monday for a lively exchange of views with the European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI). He presented the priorities of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU to the committee and replied to the questions of its members.

25.1.2019 | In its meeting, the working group preparing the Management Plan for the Wolf Population discussed the connection of the Finnish wolf population to the populations in Scandinavia. They also talked about wolf damage to reindeer and how to prevent it. The reindeer husbandry area is an important migration route for the Finnish and Scandinavian wolf populations.
