19.6.2024 | The EU ministers will meet at the Employment, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Affairs Council in Luxembourg on 20 and 21 June 2024. The items of the ministers' agenda include the social dimension of the single market, the revision of pharmaceutical legislation, the health sector's role in crisis preparedness, and the possibility of adopting a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers.

25.5.2023 | Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will participate in the Porto Social Forum on 26–27 May 2023. The meeting will discuss the EU’s social dimension, effects of the green and digital transition on the labour market, investments in skills and education, and child poverty.

3.5.2023 | An informal meeting of EU employment and social affairs ministers will take place in Stockholm on 3–4 May 2023 and an informal meeting of EU health ministers on 4–5 May 2023. Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen and Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Krista Kiuru will represent Finland at the meetings.

22.2.2021 | On 22 February, the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU will hold an informal videoconference of EU Ministers for Employment, Social Affairs and Equality. Minister of Social Affairs and Health Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen and Minister for Nordic Cooperation and Equality Thomas Blomqvist will represent Finland at the meeting.

25.8.2026 | Social- och hälsovårdsministeriet har beviljat statsunderstöd för att ta i bruk en nationell hälsoenkät, dvs. instrumentet EQ-5D-5L, inom den offentliga hälso- och sjukvården. Den information som fås med hälsoenkäten ska vara en del av den minimiinformation som social- och hälsovården ska lämna in och instrumentet ska användas som nationellt mått i styrningen av välfärdsområdena.

7.2.2024 | Finland is currently participating in the 62nd session of the UN Commission for Social Development (CSocD62) that is held in New York. The Finnish delegation is led by Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso.

6.2.2023 | The 61st session of the UN Commission for Social Development (CSocD61) will be held in New York from 6 to 15 February 2023. Finland will be represented at the session by Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen and Youth Delegate Hung Ly. Finland, the International Labour Organization ILO, the African Union and UN Women will organise a side event focusing on social protection and the effects of climate change. 

22.2.2021 | EU:s ordförandeland Portugal ordnar den 22 februari en informell videokonferens för arbets-, social- och jämställdhetsministrarna. Finland representeras vid mötet av social- och hälsovårdsminister Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, arbetsminister Tuula Haatainen och Thomas Blomqvist, minister för nordiskt samarbete och jämställdhet.

7.2.2022 | The 60th session of the UN Commission for Social Development (CSocD) will be held in a hybrid format, that is, both in New York and virtually, from 7 to 16 February 2022. The priority theme of the session is ‘Inclusive and resilient recovery from COVID-19 for sustainable livelihoods, well-being and dignity for all: eradicating poverty and hunger in all its forms and dimensions to achieve the 2030 Agenda’. 

19.6.2024 | EU-ländernas ministrar håller ett möte med rådet (sysselsättning, socialpolitik, hälso- och sjukvård och konsumentfrågor) i Luxemburg 20–21 juni. Man ska diskutera bland annat den inre marknadens sociala dimension, reformen av läkemedelslagstiftningen, hälso- och sjukvårdens roll i krisberedskapen och möjligheten att godkänna rådets rekommendation om vacciner mot cancer. 3.5.2023 | I Stockholm ordnas ett inofficiellt möte för EU:s ministrar med ansvar för sysselsättning och socialpolitik 3.–4.5.2023, och ett informellt hälsoministermöte 4.–5.5.2023. Finland representeras vid mötena av social- och hälsovårdsminister Hanna Sarkkinen och familje- och omsorgsminister Krista Kiuru.

14.10.2021 | The Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) will meet in Luxembourg on Friday 15 October. Finland’s representatives at the meeting will be Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen and Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen.

16.2.2023 | Mental health and the development of the EU’s social dimension are among the key themes to be discussed during the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU this year. These are also among the main topics when Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen meets the Swedish Minister for Older People and Social Security Anna Tenje and Minister for Social Affairs and Public Health Jacob Forssmed in Stockholm on 16–17 February 2023.

22.3.2022 | On Tuesday 22 March, the Climate Policy Roundtable discussed the climate plan for the land use sector. The discussions focused on the impacts of climate measures in the land use sector on biodiversity and the need to take into account just transition in a comprehensive way. The Roundtable also highlighted the global impact chains of wood production, security of supply in food production and the transition to sustainability through more plant-based production and consumption.

27.2.2024 | Social villkorlighet är en ny dimension i villkoren för jordbruksstöd inom hela EU, och syftet med den är att få jordbrukare som är arbetsgivare att uppmärksamma arbetstagarnas arbetsförhållanden. Genomförandet av dessa ändringar i den nationella lagstiftningen har inletts, och jordbrukare kan förbereda sig på ikraftträdandet av den sociala villkorligheten genom att använda sig av rådgivningstjänsten.

8.3.2023 | The Action Plan for the Economy of Wellbeing for 2023–2025 is now ready. The Action Plan seeks to ensure that the information describing wellbeing will be used increasingly in decision-making along with information describing economic and environmental sustainability. The objective is to integrate the economy of wellbeing into national, regional and local decision-making.

9.2.2022 | EU foreign and health ministers will convene for a joint ministerial conference in Lyon, France, on 9 February, and EU health ministers for an informal meeting in Grenoble on 10 February. At their joint conference, foreign and health ministers will discuss how to promote EU measures in the field of global health to support low- and middle-income countries. The meeting of health ministers will focus on the public health dimension of the European Health Union.

6.10.2025 | Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Warsaw on 6 October. During her visit, Minister Valtonen will meet Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski and attend the annual Warsaw Human Dimension Conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

22.3.2022 | Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen will attend a meeting of the Nordic Council in Malmö on 22 March. The meeting will discuss the Nordic welfare model and its future.

24.11.2025 | The UN’s international Orange the World campaign to end violence against women begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November. This year, the focus of the campaign is on eradicating digital violence against women and girls.
