13.5.2026 | On 13 May 2026, the Government adopted a National Security Concept as a government resolution. The concept defines Finland’s key national security interests and focuses on measures to counter the most serious threats.

19.11.2025 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne participated in the Summit on European Digital Sovereignty in Berlin on 18 November 2025. Finland also signed the Declaration for European Digital Sovereignty initiated by Austria and published in connection with the summit.

30.4.2026 | The European countries participating in Santa Marta express their strong support for the Santa Marta First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels and appreciate the leadership as shown by Colombia and the Netherlands. Santa Marta establishes an action-oriented platform to scale up work and to elevate energy transition. This is critical for addressing the climate emergency.

21.1.2026 | The members of the European Council will hold an informal meeting on Thursday 22 January. Discussions will focus on recent developments in transatlantic relations and their effects on the European Union. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the meeting.

18.1.2026 | As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise “Arctic Endurance“ conducted with Allies, responds to this necessity. It poses no threat to anyone.

22.1.2026 | President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded Prime Minister Petteri Orpo one of Ukraine’s highest distinctions in recognition of his work to strengthen cooperation between Finland and Ukraine and his support for Ukraine.

We have from the outset of Russia’s war of aggression stood by Ukraine’s side and we will continue to do so. Our resolve comes from the fact that we know that this is not only about Ukrainian security, it is also about the wider security of Europe.

27.11.2025 | On 27 November 2025, the Government submitted a communication proposing Finland’s participation in the Digital Commons European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (DC-EDIC) to Parliament. Finland would initially join the consortium as an observer member while reserving the option to apply for full membership at a later stage.
