13.3.2025 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has adopted the financial statement of the National Nuclear Waste Management Fund for 2024 and decided on the recognition of the profit of the Fund as revenue. 10.12.2025 | The wellbeing services county reform is progressing towards the set objectives throughout Finland, but there are still many issues left to address. This is according to a broad-based interim evaluation of the wellbeing services county reform made by an independent expert group.

1.12.2025 | The EU ministers will attend the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council in Brussels on 1 and 2 December 2025. On both days, Finland will be represented by Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso.

15.7.2025 | The Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met for its 134th session in London on 7–11 July 2025. Finland has been a member of the Council during the current term 2024–2025.

30.10.2025 | On 30 October, the Ministerial Finance Committee decided to support a proposal to provide EUR 11 million in funding to the civil defence coalition led by Finland and Ukraine. The proposal was prepared in the administrative branch of Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio. The support will be channelled through the European Union’s Ukraine Facility to finance the construction of civil defence shelters.

15.6.2021 | The Real Time Economy project will create the conditions for companies to move to real-time economy. Invoices and receipts will be electronic, for example, and business information will be automatically transferred between different systems. Up-to-date information and its automated processing will increase productivity in both companies and public administration.

14.1.2025 | Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will visit Brussels on Wednesday 15 January. During the visit, Minister Strand will meet with Commissioner for Budget and Administration Piotr Serafin and Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos. He will also take part in the Sustainable Energy Reimagined conference.

17.5.2023 | The European Commission provides technical support to reforms in EU Member States with a special focus on making public administration fit for the future and adaptable to change. The Technical Support Instrument (TSI) 2024 Call is now open. The national deadline for submitting requests for support is 20 October 2023.

19.12.2024 | The European Union reaffirmed its support for Ukraine when the leaders of the Member States met in Brussels on 19 December. The European Council held an in-depth discussion on Ukraine and the EU’s role on the global stage. Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also in attendance.

12.6.2025 | The Finnish Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the Act on the Protection of Infrastructure Critical to Society and on the Improvement of Resilience on 13 June. In accordance with the Government Programme, the act will strengthen national security and the resilience of our society. The act is scheduled to enter into force on 1 July 2025.

25.10.2024 | Financing is needed to preserve biodiversity, both in Finland and globally. The EU Nature Restoration Regulation, the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework call for measures that will require evermore financing, especially from the private sector.
